What did you do to your 2002 today !

Got the pitman arm removed from the sector shaft after wasting a couple of days with the wrong puller, heat and copious amounts of PB, which eventually resulted in busting the puller. Got the correct one and it was off in 2 minutes. ?

And with THAT, my disassembly of the car is complete, finished, every nut and bolt. From this point on, it is individual part or sub-system restoration. Hooray!

Motor is in the car and all the “stuff” has been connected. Ran the starter without the fuel pump and have oil pressure. Connected the fuel pump wires and turned on the key to pressurize the system and all 4 seals on the top of the Kugelfischer leaked...damn. It had been sitting for over three years dry, so I should’ve expected it. New O rings on the way and got new washers for the lines and inlet while I was at it. Will work on the ignition while I wait. Installing a IE tii style electronic disti. Will have the motor going next week! Finish line goal is August 14 for Monterey Historics.

If you were double clamping a hose thats exactly right if you put the clamps on the same way your likely to pull a pooch in the hose causing a leak if they are oppisite they cancel that out.

If everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then someone is not thinking.

New panel for the floor.

Pretty straight forward panel to make, only the profile of the floor I needed to mess with a little using the shrinker and hammer/dolly.  I still need to trim is some more but overall pretty happy how it turned out.

Did compression test this morning and interested in feedback from those who are smarter than I am... so, in past posts I’ve seen “good” numbers in the high 150 to mid 160’s. My numbers were #1 - 175; #2 - 170; #3 - 170; #4 - 180. Are those to be expected of a fresh rebuild? I have a 1974 tii motor that I’ve set up per the tii manual. Anything I need to consider on my setup? Haven’t started it yet due to leaking Kugelfischer. Will have new o rings tomorrow to resolve that.

Dizzy cap and rotor popped during a 1st gear pull.  The cap managed to stay in the engine bay, connected to the wires, but the rotor decided to exit the premise somewhere on the 101...

Thanks @rstclark for providing some local troubleshooting and traffic control.

Also, residue on the cap, and condition of my #4 plug indicate that my blow-by issue might be a little more pressing than I thought...Time to run a compression test.

Engine bay OCD is a real problem

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
