What did you do to your 2002 today !

Removed the hood, pulled the engine and transmission as a unit. Separated the two, engine on a stand, transmission is on my bench. Dropped the core of the front subframe.  The body is now ready for blasting, metal work and paint.

Yeah i made it just in time for a saturday race start. Tommy was great help! Couldn’t make in time without him. Missed out qualifying so started back of the grid. Tomorrow is 2nd start. Hope it stays together.

My brake light switch failed… I ordered a new one but itll be a while before it arrives. I took apart the old one to determine why it failed… Interesting mechanism. The contacts were so gunked up there was no amount of trying to inject cleaner that would fix it. I destroyed it taking it apart. So I 3d printed some parts and made a new temporary one! Reused the old housing so it could be affixed the same way. The washer on the plunger connects the two wires when the plunger is fully extended.

I came to the conclusion that my massive level of retardness was going to get me rear ended, wife confirmed my ability to go full retard was significant and annoying. :(

 

Back to stock ish e30m3 brakes.

 

Pictured is the rear that I was running compared to the rear m3 caliper. I'm going to see if I can get the same pads but in the relevant fitment...

Pulled the brake booster to be rebuilt... my brake pedal started feeling a little harder and the engine idle would get rough with the brake pedal down. Having trouble finding the gasket 34331103314 for the elbow connector though, seems to be out of stock everywhere! Any suggestions? Any luck with a generic, properly sized o-ring?

I have one here that I've pulled some measurements off of.  It might help you find an alternative.  The rubber ring has a squared off profile.  Not round like a typical O-ring.  My tools measure in inches, so I'll give you those numbers.

 

The OD is one inch.  The ID is .625" (5/8") and the thickness is .190" (3/16").

So Mcmaster Carr has a quad ring, 16mm ID, with 1.5 and 2mm cross sections...  4 or 5mm cross section might be tough.  Might need to try a regular o-ring?

Power Brake Exchange happily supplied me with the right gasket, along with some extras!

PM if you need one, I can put it in an envelope. Or give Power Brake Exchange a call if you want a bunch! The guy there said they basically bought a huge lot of these o-rings a few years back, since they fit a lot of the older ATE brake boosters.
