What did you do to your 2002 today !

New fuel tank from MVP (old one had big dent in bottom). Euro front signals, also from MVP. FYI - the 74-76 tank from MVP has the long filler neck for a '73 car. I did have to drill one hole in the flange of the tank. I think the '73 mounting may be an oddball from other years?

Best of all I paid more attention to actually setting the valve clearance and that emerging tapping sound is gone & the idle seems much smoother!!

Started to delve into the 74tii from Danco. Best I can tell, maybe ran in 09? Fresh oil and took the tank out to be boiled. Lots of gunk but no rust. All new rubber fuel lines came today…let’s see where this goes!

Can you tell where the fuel level was? ?

Today I disconnected my speedo cable to save my gauge.

Problems began the morning after commuting to work during the PNW's historic heat dome or what ever they called  The needle began to violently jump around, at some points registering 95 mph during the short commute to work. Max speed limit 35 mph.

I'll try to find time to pull the speedo tomorrow and re-set the spinning internals.  Classic symptoms.

p.s  - also received new motor mounts in the mail. today  !

Eric

--update, needle is back to behaving itself

Hi 7502,

Easy fix - the bushing at the center rotating post of the speedo has been displaced outward, causing the erratic behavior:

You can first try to reach behind the speedo and simply tap it back into place.  This may get you going.  If you want to do the deep dive repair (thanks to FunkyLaneO):

I had not noticed that my Tii was squatting to such an extent until I swapped on winter tires and I was rubbing the fender on the passenger side!

That's a shitty way to start a race weekend.  You're getting to drive today?  Sunday?

Dave.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
