  1. Thanks, I'm getting the nerve up to work on mine again to hopefully solve a couple issues.
  2. As the others have said there is a procedure to rectify your situation. When my shop installed my G245, it initially wouldn't go into reverse at all. Next day, talked to the shop owner and he said bring it back in and they would fix it. Apparently the technician was learning on the job, the older owner knew right away what happened and they fixed it in 1/2 an hour. Sorry I don't know the details of the fix but it's along the lines of some of the comments above. Don't give up.
  3. I played around w/ the wiper arms this morning using some of the suggestions above. Thanks for the help. I re-centered the pins using a punch. Like Tom, I found that the pins should probably be a little longer since the barely make contact to the wiper arm frame. I also removed the passenger side wiper to clean the spring hook ends removing some old paint and roughness. I attempted to add a slight bend to the longer end of the springs. They now stay up in the air, but rest on a hair trigger, snapping back with just a slight touch. Good enough, but probably not how they were when new. I did find it odd that the wiper arms are made in England.

  6. My car is a '75 model. Minor question, but I have always wondered if the wiper arms are meant to remain up off the glass when pulled up to their max deflection. Mine feel like they almost want to stay up off the glass at the full upward position but instead always snap back down to rest on the windshield. My '63 VW Ghia arms don't stay up either but they don't move that far up off the windshield, my '77 VW Bus arms would stay up as I remember, 70's beetles too.
  7. I'm trying to dry out garage today following a good old fashioned gully washer. We had heavy rain, thunder then hail for a bit, different from our normal constant light rain. Poor car cant catch a break. even when it's in the garage the dew point is at ambient.
  8. Took the car for a drive down I-5 for a family visit. Half way down the speedometer started to act up - creeping up until it read about 100 mph. I reached up behind the gauge and played w/ the speedo cable knurled nut until it settled back down to normal highway speed. After that on-the fly repair it worked properly the entire 180 miles until I got back home. Car ran great as usual. Got a couple thumbs up of the interstate from newish BMW M cars.
  9. I think that car lives a couple blocks down the road from me on my street. Owner had it out of his garage last week. Very nice car.
  10. Need to take a drive tomorrow morning to see my mom, it'll be 176 miles in what the media around here likes to call an "atmospheric river". I actually liked what they previously called it "pineapple express". Either way, it's bound to be a long wet drive. After a cold snap into the teens and then a bunch of snow it's been a few weeks since I've drove the 2002 since I've been using the KG. Tonight I'm placing it on he trickle charger set to AGM setting. Hope everything goes as planned.
  11. I was adjusting the timing on my '63 Karmann Ghia years ago and didn't notice the 10mm socket was still on the distributor locking clamp bolt. That trooper has been on there for probably close to 10 years. It's jammed in just right that it never comes off on its' own. I just let it stay there and it always works fine. I have other 10mm sockets that see more action but at this point it's a single use socket.

  14. Maybe your flasher isn't getting enough juice to work when there is high battery draw with the headlights on?

  16. Today was valve adjust day. It's been 8609 miles since the last time. All valves were w/in 0.006 - 0.008 as found, I set any that were not at 0.007 back to that value. Car continues to run like Swiss watch. I like to place the car in 4th gear, raise a rear wheel and hand turn the raised wheel to rotate the engine.

  18. I located some old pictures I took of the rear window channel as I prepped it for a new seal a couple years ago. My car is a '75. I prepped both the front and rear windshield channels prior to taking it in to the glass shop. I provided them w/ new OEM seals and the plastic beauty trim and was very happy with the fitment. Not sure if these pic's are what your looking for. I have others now that I finally located them on the PC.
  19. I've had the manually switched 123 for awhile now. I have tried many of the 16 curves. I think I've stuck with #2 for a year or so. Basically I switch it and then tune for max advance - no vac of around 34-35 BTCD . I have an air fuel meter so the jets can be systematically fine tuned. Really don't know what setting is best without careful evaluation and I'm still probably on the wrong setting but it sure does run well as long as the cap stays seated.

  21. I've always liked the sound of the Ansa, not loud in my book, but that's the only style I've ever had in the 6 or 7 years I've owned the car. I do have the original center resonator section, the Ansa fit's perfectly besides the rear hanger weirdness. Not sure what was OE back in the day.
  22. Installed the new replacement muffler this morning. Not sure what's going on with the rear hanger attachment point. I had to bend the muffler hanger sharply over to the left so it would reach the hook. I suspect that hook isn't OEM. Something isn't quite right, but for the life of me I can't figure out where that rear hanger is suppose to attach. The one obvious hole running through the center support section could conceivably be made to work but for now I suppose I just run it like I have it. It is nice to have the old whispering bomb back to sounding correct again. Eric
  23. I ordered a new Ansa BW0247 rear muffler yesterday for my '75 after noticing the obvious deterioration when I was under the car doing something else. Looks like it rusted out from the inside. Funny thing, it must have been failing so slowly I became accustomed to the change in tone over time, and explains the occasional exhaust smell in the cabin. Looking at he rear hanger it looks like the PO or muffler shop bent the hanger so it would line up w/ the upper attachment point somehow. Hoping I can get in the trunk and move that hanger to the right so it lines up properly w/ muffler bracket which I assume should point straight back.

Trying to clean up the work bench I found this bottle of oil treatment that still had a few stubborn ounces remaining, not wanting to throw it out with product still in it I discovered the bottle nearly screws right into the filler hole. Now I can just wait until tomorrow when this viscous stuff drips out and dispose of the bottle properly. Waste not want not.
