  1. Installed the new replacement muffler this morning. Not sure what's going on with the rear hanger attachment point. I had to bend the muffler hanger sharply over to the left so it would reach the hook. I suspect that hook isn't OEM. Something isn't quite right, but for the life of me I can't figure out where that rear hanger is suppose to attach. The one obvious hole running through the center support section could conceivably be made to work but for now I suppose I just run it like I have it. It is nice to have the old whispering bomb back to sounding correct again. Eric
  2. I ordered a new Ansa BW0247 rear muffler yesterday for my '75 after noticing the obvious deterioration when I was under the car doing something else. Looks like it rusted out from the inside. Funny thing, it must have been failing so slowly I became accustomed to the change in tone over time, and explains the occasional exhaust smell in the cabin. Looking at he rear hanger it looks like the PO or muffler shop bent the hanger so it would line up w/ the upper attachment point somehow. Hoping I can get in the trunk and move that hanger to the right so it lines up properly w/ muffler bracket which I assume should point straight back.
  3. Did you look here? Wallothnesch - Ersatzteile für klassische BMW Automobile | Wallothesch WWW.WALLOTHNESCH.COM
  4. Trying to clean up the work bench I found this bottle of oil treatment that still had a few stubborn ounces remaining, not wanting to throw it out with product still in it I discovered the bottle nearly screws right into the filler hole. Now I can just wait until tomorrow when this viscous stuff drips out and dispose of the bottle properly. Waste not want not.
  5. I had a local auto glass shop install both front and rear gaskets and trim strips with OEM parts which I provided. Previously I removed the old gaskets, cleaned and repainted the frame so it would be ready to go. Before choosing the shop I drove in and showed them the car so they knew what they were getting into to. Luckily, they had one guy who always did the older cars and he said it would be no problem. He did an excellent job.
  6. We think alike. I bought a can of Penetrol for my spare transmission, now if I only had a better place to store it.
  7. My drivers side rear window hing broke a couple weeks ago, luckily a forum member sent me the needed part. I once again have a functioning hinge. This hinge is now a hybrid of the old style chrome and the newer black painted style. Thanks to @Harry Malkas I realize I don't have the correct style attachment bolt and it probably represents a security vulnerability but that's for another time.
  8. This post prompted me to see if I could maybe get my hinges to function better since they auto- close and then rattle in the near close position. Last couple years I've used tennis balls to keep them open. Unfortunately, I found the pot metal was cracked and it came apart in my hand after barely touching it, For now I'm attempting a JB weld fix to least keep it together while in the fully closed position. I assume the older, chrome style hinges should also work in my later '75 model?
  9. Hi - I'm looking for a rear window pop-out window hinge, late style for '75. Any in your stash?? Eric
  10. Refresh my recollection, what is your current timing? May I suggest you get an assistant to jump in the divers seat and start the car while you slowly twist the distributor to find a starting point where the car will run on it's own. To do this you will need to first loosen the distributor clamp just enough to allow you rotate it just a little bit as it begins to fire. Don't go crazy with the rotation, start with small adjustments of 1/4 in or so.
  11. Does this car have a generator or alternator? I would confirm good output either way, also check the dash idiot lights.
  12. I've heard that too. I added a few oz of STP oil treatment that contains zinc for peace of mind.
  13. I did an oil/filter change this morning. Log book shows last one was 3/10/22 and 5127 miles ago. This time I really cheaped out on the oil. I put in Super Tech 20W50 from WalLMaRt that cost around $17 for the 5 Qts. I won't go as long next time with this stuff. Eric
  14. This indicates you need to drive it a bit more, at least through the summer. Nice looking car.
  15. If it wont catch w/ starter fluid squirting down the carb during cranking I wonder if the timing got jarred or something?
  16. Terrible news, I feel for you. Could it be time for some emergency engine rejuvenating products like Sea Foam, Marvells Mystery Oil or similar? Did you try 20W50?
  17. Are there any pictures, or maybe .avi of the axles being yanked with the car up in the air?
  18. I never did see what he was driving. I do think he was a BMW fan, but he just had a really clean dead pan delivery, and good timing to his comment that made it funny after he broke out laughing. I really did enjoy the exchange since it was so unusual. I didn't feel any animosity for the kid.
  19. This is what I use to plug the AF ratio bung. Looks like it's also a M18. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/copper-core/ignition---tune-up/spark-plugs/b14eb31b13d7/autolite-copper-core-spark-plug/ato1/386 I use the Innova 3855 wide band AF ratio gauge. Actually replaced the sensor with a new one today after about 5 years of service and it's working properly again. Recommended it.
  20. That's about where mine is mounted. What kit did you install? Do you have a spark plug that fits the threads just in case you need to remove the sensor?
  21. This afternoon I was in my favorite neighborhood convenience store lining up to buy some beer and this young guy behind me says "Is that your bimmer? As I was preparing to answer him he then stated " it looks like sh!t", then after a pause he burst out laughing. It was pretty funny, I never got upset or felt defensive I was just tired of painting and wanted some cold beer. We had a good laugh. I know my car is just a daily diver but I never think it looks like shit.
  22. The sensor is a LSU 4.9 and searching pn 17025 I was able to find one on Amazon for $77, a local O'reillys Auto Parts listed them at $116 but were willing to match Amazon's price. Installed it this morning and I'm back in business. Thanks, uai !
