  1. I've had this Pertronix II for almost 20 years in my VW, never missed a beat in year round driving. Also have their "Flamethrower" 3 Ohm coil.
  2. I concur, those EPay ads look like mine, so not home made. I'm happy to run whatever is on there, but will follow through and learn why this odd arm was ever needed.
  3. That's a beaut. You are a lucky man. I have a Chaninoix car as well. Probably won't take as much work as you think.
  4. I'm ok with the current set up and will keep using it it. There must be a good reason someone would go through the trouble of this adaptation. If your look closely you can see they bent the end of the arm 90 degrees. Not sure I could do that with my bench vise. Thanks Tom, I'll take one with me and see what blades are similar.
  5. Anyone seen this windshield wiper arrangement before? Driven this car year round for 20 yrs and never replaced the blades but I'm getting there. To me it looks like the PO cut off the original arms and then attached just the end of a different set of arms. The whole thing just looks weird. I believe the existing arm section is original to the car since the motor and linkage are original. I'm guessing, for replacement, I just need to find or modify new stock rubber blades and slide them in? From the other side: Love to hear opinions on whats been done here?
  6. Installed a spring in the sunroof handle, first time since I've owned the car that it tucks itself up properly. While trying to force it into position it snapped out and was was nearly lost but I eventually found it hanging in a spider web. Eric
  7. Yeah, I never thought it was possible! Especially, considering how bad the Karmann bodied E9 rust.
  8. Just checked the radiator temperature of the 2002 since its been sitting for 4 days during our " polar vortex" cold snap. Outside the unheated garage it's dropped to the low teens for the last few nights. I'll start it up tomorrow and let it warm and charge up a bit. During the snow and salt season I drive the '63 Karmann Ghia, performs better in the snow and is less susceptible to rust.
  9. I attempted to make a working spring twice and failed. This product makes my day. Hope the deep freeze doesn't waylay my package. thanks
  10. Too bad the 36mm aircooled VW ones don't match.
  11. Yesterday I applied Rain X to both the front and back windshields. Today, for a family visit I drove about 175 miles in the rain, sleet, hail, and snow. Glad to get back home safely. Rain X worked pretty good overall. Interesting how the water would run across the windshield to the edge as seen by the dried dirt. I drove in the slow lane the entire time around 55-60 mph so maybe not fast enough to push the water straight over the glass.
  12. Nothing, I often just leave it running when I hop into the Kwiki mart for a six pack. I do turn off the lights though.
  13. I had good luck using a local independent auto glass shop to replace my 75's rubber seals/lock strip using my existing glass a couple years ago. I paid cash, it was $300 for both the front and rear. They did a god job, I spoke w/ the installer ahead of time to be sure he knew how to do it properly. Don't know the history of your car but if there is any chance of corrosion on the frame under the seal area I recommend you first pull the window, gasket, and lock strip yourself and treat the frame for rust prior to taking it into the shop for the new windshield. Just wear some goggles for the drive if you travel much faster than 35 mph. I think you could be able to reuse the lock strip if it's still in nice condition. Are you planning on reusing the rubber seal? Eric
  14. VW aircooled engine studs sub for 2002 exhaust manifold studs.
  15. Maybe so, my 75 didn't have those when I bought it. But I still like the idea of having them since I have the punyest bumpers in the world w/ my IE fiberglass jobs.
  16. Thanks for that, i was ready to order and got cold feet. Need to find more stuff to reach $200 !
  17. Take a good look at your spark at each plug. Did you actually do a compression test? Hope not.
  18. Wondering if you need to use that much wire doing the neg. Seems like a lot of wire and weight.
  19. Anyone follow this recent auction? No Reserve: BMW M10 Engine and Getrag 5-Speed Transmission BRINGATRAILER.COM Bid for the chance to own a No Reserve: BMW M10 Engine and Getrag 5-Speed Transmission at auction with Bring a Trailer, the home of the best vintage and classic cars online. Lot #90,697. If so, any thoughts? As a semi hoarder I was watched it with interest. Apparently a slightly built up motor for a Lotus so the exhaust manifold wont fit a 2002. Eric
  20. NW European Autoworks in Bellingham. They of course focus on newer cars but the owner has a couple of older BMW's. Unfortunately, I doubt they have any more 5 speeds but I guess you never know. Mine was way in the back attic collecting dust.
  21. Spoke with a guy this morning at a local hardware store parking lot. He was admiring my car and shared that he also has a 2002 and just got his engine rebuild/machined at Dunn SS. He was super happy with the work they did and couldn't say enough on how great they were. He said they were very knowledgeable on the M10 and were able to source parts. He couldn't be any more complimentary on their professionalism. I've driven by their shop hundreds of times but never imagined they might be an option for any future engine work on the M10. Nice to have them near by. Has any one ever interacted with Dunn Specialty Service in Bellingham for M10 work? Don't need em right now but it's good to have an option for the future. Thanks, Eric
  22. I bought a known good, used G245 from a local BMW shop for $750 providing I had them swap out the original 4 speed. I had to also provide the new driveshaft and a reputable 5 speed conversion kit. That was probably 4 or 5 years ago. I use the interstate highway pretty regularly so it's comes in real handy. I like to cruise at about 3000 rpm for quiet and economical trip. Also fun to occasionally switch it up and downshift to 4th on the interstate for brief moments before pushing it up and way over for 5th again. A couple years ago I picked up another 5 speed to have as a spare, think that one cost me about $900. But I agree with the sentiment of first making sure your 4 speed linkage is correct and everything is set up to spec. before jumping ship.
