Honest and reliable is good. Very good.

Yes I agree, I remember the first time I took my car to him he did some work on my rad, and didn’t secure the overflow hose properly, it hit the fan and went straight through the rad, pretty unlucky really, to be fair the W+N rad didn’t have the tabs for the hose to be fixed against the rad, so in fairness it wasn’t really his fault.

he said “sorry and that he should have noticed that”

He told me to bring the car and he’d strip it out and fix it and refit, I met him part of the way. I pulled the rad, he had it recored and braised on a set of holding tabs for the rad overflow pipe then painted it as well. I refitted it.

i thought that was very good and have used him since.

i think his brother races an 02?also.

I have left it registered in South Australia- which needs no Inspection but I figure that’s not a long term option even though I still own a house in SA where it is registered. I don’t think my car will have any problems passing but I would like to go somewhere that is familiar with old cars to minimise stupid discussions and eye rolling.

Why would you do that?  Why not just leave it registered in SA?

Dave.

Went from my 13x8s Diamond Racing wheels to a Axis 15x8s all around. Fit perfect all around

The new wheels look good.  How did you like the Diamond wheels?  I've been looking at them for a while.

And might need to find a chrome rear bumper now- I know a car that could use that black rear one you've got there...

Yes, and like dinosaurs, all honest and reliable mechanics are now extinct since the mid 80's. I do not trust any mechanics in Sydney, period. On the other hand, there are number of experienced engine builders, brake and clutch shops, suspension, steering and body shops that I know of in Sydney but I always open the part and take it there. My 02 stays in my garage thank you very much! lol

My goal for the weekend was to get the rebuilt motor into the car.

Got all the brake related stuff in, steering column back in the car, just needed to remove the driveshaft and run the new brake line through the tunnel to the rear T:

I worked on the passenger door today, replacing the door stop and the door latch opening mechanism.  You can now open the passengers door from the inside. I noticed that the door stop hinge bracket had been re-welded at some time in the past. I also replaced two missing plastic door rod latch grommets and added some vibration adsorbing tar mats to the outer skin. Before I buttoned it up I sprayed some "cavity wax" along the interior of the door. I hope the car appreciates my work today.

Used some light compound with a foam pad and a good wax with a different foam pad to get this thing to shine back up. Getting it ready for this coming weekend, gonna go for a long drive somewhere. Thats to be determined.

Cleaned up the doors, getting them ready for paint. They cleaned up real nice. A little rust on the bottom seam. Cleaned the majority of it out, then used Silver POR-15 to seal it away. Weather looks as though it’ll be nice for most of the next two weeks. Goal is to shoot the hood, trunk lid, sunroof and doors with the Glasurit primer. If I get 2 days of nice then I’ll also try to shoot the front 1/2 including engine bay. Still need to finish sanding everything but I am seriously close.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
