  1. A friend sent me these pics of a pair of BMWs in a board room at the Indigo offices in St. Louis.
  2. The wire to the coil was previously connected to the ballast resistor. It was disconnected by the force of the coil coming apart. This coil too was an original German tan top unit
  3. So… my son’s 73 02 has been in a storage barn at the shop that I co-own for about a year now. A few months ago someone went out to the barn and reorganized all of the cars in it including my son’s ‘02. In the midst of moving the cars my sons car was left running where it was parked. Someone lost track of the cars condition and it stopped running (may have fouled out ;38/38 felt a bit rich at idle last I drove it). No one verified the car was shut off. Yesterday I went out to start the car and move it closer to the door as I want to swap the header and drive it some. Dead battery… no big deal… until I opened the hood and found this. If anyone has ever wondered what the inside of a coil looks like… the “coil” was found on the ground under the car. And if anyone has ever wondered why people say “don’t leave the ignition on if the car isn’t running”. we could have lost over a million dollars in cars if this car had gone up in flames.
  4. Just like it says. I want a replacement exhaust manifold for my 02. I’ve got a header in the car and don’t care for it. Don’t care if it’s got the air injector tubes or not. I just need one with no cracks. Thanks, Jake
  5. I’ll take the exhaust manifold if there aren’t any cracks in it. -Jake
  6. Kind of off topic but sorta in line- I have a collection of 60s/70’s Sears garden tractors. I had one that I’ve since sold “One eyed Jack” (only had one headlight when I bought it). It had 6.5” wide x 23” tall tires on the back. That thing would push a 48” wide blade full of “blue” snow in a pile rolling over the top of the blade like it was nobodies business with just two sets of wheel weights (33lbs each cast iron discs). All of my other tractors have 7.5” wide or wider rear tires. My current plow rig pushes a 42” blade on 7.5” wide tires with 3 sets of weights on the back wheels (80lbs a side- two seats sets and one IH set) and 2 link chains and it still doesn’t push as effortlessly at Jack did… Man I miss that tractor.
  7. Wow… terrible news. My condolences.
  8. “The stumble seems to not be so bad the first couple of minutes of driving, then gets worse when it gets warm. The stumble is available at idle, just sitting there, as well as it noticeable at most any constant throttle setting. Transient response, even with that function turned off, is not bad at all- this is not a transient result- at least I can't see how it could be.” I’m no end all be all tuning wizard, but a few thoughts rattled through my head this morning and again tonight as I read this new post. 1)Air leak- engine warms and manifold or something twists/grows… raises o2 levels engine lean misses. 2) Engine is fine til warm. Fuel enrichment is covering a desire for the engine to run lean (maps). Acceleration enrichment resolves the issue as well. I don’t know haltech from Adam, but I’ll assume you can set base stoich and target AFRs. Perhaps fattening the maps will correct the issue. I know I know… but when you pull the plugs you hear angles sing… maybe they need to be a bit dirty… just a few thoughts from someone that doesn’t know enough to know he doesn’t know enough. Lol -Jake
  9. My 5 yo likes the P Car the best. His racecar is a close second though. ? IMG_4379.MOV IMG_6104.mp4
  10. I’m just gonna throw this out there… anybody verify the pilot bearing is sized correctly for the tip of the main shaft?
  11. Took my Son (5yrs old) and his racecar to the local Cars n Coffee yesterday. Lots of people were happy that I took initiative to put this one back on the road. Several are eager to see it once the paint is done.
  12. I was thankful that it failed in town and not on the highway on my way to the third errand
  13. I broke some stuff today ’73 Chamonix I’d put about 30miles on the car so I decided to run some errands for the shop in the car. Several rattles had held my attention but none had seemed too severe so I drove the car to town. First stop was o uneventful. 2nd stop I slipped under the car to feel around at the shift linkage. About an 1” of side to side play has me concerned. I couldn’t feel anything so I jumped in and headed out of the lot aggressively. The toyo proxies broke loose in first and I snagged 2nd gear. The rear end started to hunker down and then wang-o! The revs shot up and car wasn’t accelerating anymore. I tried a few different gears and no changes… immediate revs, but no meaningful propulsion. Turns out the right outer CV decided to part company with the stub axle. I pulled over into a neighborhood to assess the situation. After I found the loose axle a Good Samaritan came to see what the trouble was. Turns out Sean was a semi-retired dirt track racer. He was all too happy to rifle through is truck to find me a 6mm Allen wrench so I could get 3 bolts reinstalled and tightened. I limped the car home, chase the threads and installed different bolts with red loctite. I drove another 50+ miles after that with no futher incident.
  14. Chamonix ‘73 Rear belts and seat installed. Since the car is technically a 4 seater I needed to install belts in the back so the owner can go for rides with me. He’s 5 years old. ?
  15. The car will be painted the original Chamonix white. I will add Motorsports striping across opposing corners of the car. Interior will likely be grey and black. the 740 will be a donor for a 4 seat model t bucket. The Benz is merely a hopeful parts car for another 190D in the storage barn.
  16. So it’s been about 4-1/2yrs since I drug the carcass of this car home. In that time I’ve replaced the ENTIRE trunk floor (including the tray between the wheel wells, the rear panel, all of the floor pans, both outer rockers, repaired both inner rockers, replaced the drivers frame rail, repaired the pass rail, removed and reattached the nose, replaced the majority of the firewall (including remaking the area around the heater box), swapped both doors, replaced the left A sheet and hinges. Replaced both wing sheets, and on and on. I am still going to replace the roof ( I have a good slick top on hand) as this one has too much seam rust around the sunroof for me to want to keep it. Lots of external rust repair still to do, but the main shell is now strong enough to be driven. All of the suspension has been gone through- new bushing though out, Bilstein sports and IE springs, 5spd trans, new clutch, 3.91 LSD, 292 cam, 38/38 carb, a header and ansa exhaust, fitted a full turbo aero kit and some killer compomotive wheels. The wiring harnesses have all been repaired and rewrapped. All of the lights and switches function as they should. It’s time to thrash it about for a bit before the weather turns and start back in on bodywork.
  17. I would not be walking around in Tevas carrying that sumbuck. That’s just waiting to mangle a foot. Lol
  18. Same boat. I’ve been working on this car for 4-1/2 yrs to finally get it solid enough to drive. It’s gonna stay basically this way for a bit. Al least til driving season is over. Then I swap the roof and continue rust repair.
  19. I plated the car and drove it 8-1/2mi for its first shake down run. They were pretty quick miles and I loved it. Looking forward to many more gallons of fuel going through this car. ?
  20. I bought a rubber one from W+N. Fits well. You can see it on my project ‘73
