What did you do to your 2002 today !

20210527_195024.jpgToday, I did a really tricky job....wheel centers. A friend printed them a while back, but I learned the hard way that an interference fit in a rim on plastic that is not thermodynamically stable is not a great combo....so first time on the track, when the brakes warmed the centers became loose. After experimenting with complex solutions, I have turned to silicone to solve the problem....

Finally had the last part fabricated so it’s pretty much done, I did a few Redline pulls with the fabricator for big grins and giggles, really the first big pulls on the new 2002Garagewerks donor motor

Today I turned the idle mixture screw out a bit, to drop the AFR reading from 13+ to 12.25+/-.

These old carbs are such a pain to have to maintain.  Maybe I should upgrade to fuel injection.  :D

I was hoping to get to adjust the dwell, but it's still stuck at 60.  What fun are points if you never get to adjust them?

I figured I'd at least top off any low tires, but they're all fine.

I guess I'll just drive the thing.

I don't believe that. I think you need a more accurate measuring instrument.

Tom,

Does fiddling with the timing have an effect on the AFR readings?

Just curious....if anyone would know, it would be you!!

Took a little break from working on the car due a lot of work ( that brings money in) and 9 days in Maui... got back at it today. Rolled the kilmat on the parcel shelf then put all of the stuff back in place. Installed the front and rear glass. Readjusted the front bumper. Next couple of weeks the drivetrain gets installed.

I continued my fight with my 38 DGAS running as a 38 DGES.  It is hard staring and running poorly cold.  Today I noted the engine was flooded.  I removed my plugs, aired everything out, pulled the carb and cleaned all parts in my ultrasonic cleaner (which isn't the greatest piece ever).  I have recently rebuilt the carb with everything but the floats new.

I have tested the float weight (good) and the don't sink in gas.  But I read of another test which if failed.  I put the floats in nearly boiling water and watched air bubbles stream out of it.

I ordered a new float.

One quick test for hollow floats you can do in the shop is to shake them and if they feel cooler after you do there is gas present inside the float and it's evaporation is cooling things down.

Absolutely, especially at idle.  If the spark is retarded, the mixture won't fully ignite leading to a rich condition.
