Not all done today, but in the last 3 weeks. Helped live the confinement rules! In the process of rebuilding my 2002 Tii after a total restoration from bare metal. She should be on her wheels within the next few weeks. Waiting for the engine to be rebuild by a specialist

Have both doors stripped, gutted, and door jams down to metal. I am doing a panel a day getting ready for color change to Polaris. It’s hot out there!! 100 today. 4 plus years of welding and repairs. It feels like I’m getting close.
 

Started to mock up the ie spoiler too!

 

All of this with a 2 year old takes a while!

Awe geeze... 

 

Ive been up to a few things in the ‘ole garage. 
 

1st off- 

Chamonix ‘73

 

I disassembled/blasted/painted a pile of parts in preparation for the reassembly of the engine bay. I still need to prime/paint the bay, but when it’s done I don’t want a bunch of part detailing to hold up assembly. So accessories that mount on the engine/brackets, the brake booster/brackets/pedals/etc have all been painted.

I removed the cylinder head from the engine for that car... what a struggle! All of the head bolt holes were packed tight with what seemed like corrosion/solidified oil/and maybe thread sealant... I had drive 8/10 bolts out with a brass drift and hammer. Then I scraped each bore in the head to make room for the bolts to be reinstalled later. What a mess...

I also pressure washed the 5spd trans that’ll be going in this car. 
 

After the pedal box was disassembled and blasted I started repairs. I’ve had Swiss cheese with fewer holes than this box, but I’ll fix it. I’ve got a good start already.

-General shop work

 

Back to the head service jig that I am using. As far as I know it’s a factory tool. This one is meant for a for a 6cyl. head. My Dad sold his 4 cyl jig years ago. My intention is to manufacture another spring compression girdle for the M10 head so that I can use this jig for both 4 and 6 cyl heads. I don’t have a lot of need for it, but since I do currently why not complete the project.

I need to figure out what the rocker shaft drivers/pullers looked like. I have 2 shafts, some slap weights and other misc that came with this jig ( you can see them laying either side of the stand) but I think I’m missing some parts. It’s be nice to finish this unit out to make it more useful.

Went driving and my "personal racetrack" had caught on fire! 1500+ acres, evacuations, road closures and all that. They reopened the roads so had to go check it out.... had been watching these hills get dry over the past couple months

In preparation to welding in the repaired rain tray, we decided to sandblast the underside of the window sill & the hood latch panel.

I just need to replace the old isolation pad clips with some new ones I made up. I am now selling these as well if you're interested.

A wile back I made some new shims for the steering box, while going through the blue books again, I noticed that the bearings need a specific friction.

I converted the numbers and it should have 0,1 - 0,24Nm of friction. I decided to look for a small torque screwdriver, after telling a co worker.

He pointed out we had one at work! Interval of 0,05Nm, should be accurate enough for the steering box.

I also ordered new full door skins from Jaymic, I'm curious on how they will look/fitt. Pictures looked promising!

My Behr 320i radiator gave up the ghost and needed replacing. I wanted to splash out on a W&N/Jaymic radiator, but covid has slowed down international shipping and I wanted to get my car back on the road as soon as possible. I was able to find a Spectra CU759 online here in Canada, and just finished installing. Time will tell if it's quality is as decent as the Behr, but I can say that the all metal Spectra looks much more at home in the 2002 than the plastic tanks of the Behr. I lopped off the upper mounting "ears" with a zip disc and touched up with paint before installing. So far, so good. 

Excuse the scruffy engine bay, I beat on this thing.

Sheepishly posting, having Terry Sayther do the work while others are doing their own metal fabrication...

 

- Full inspection/look over for my new purchase

- oil change

- carb tune and sync

- Compression test (all good)

- clutch master and slave (slave went out in 48 hours between purchase and drive to Terry’s. Shifting issue one block from Terry’s. Go figure.)

- Lower radiator hose - burst when they were test driving.

- Alignment

- Alternator bushings

- Accessory belt, AC belt

- Tail lamp

- BBS center cap

- Ground gauges

- Flex disk

 

Still misfiring at 5k, more work needed. Terry is thinking full carb cleaning needed. 

Oh, and I cleaned/oiled the air filter all by myself.
