Your Biggest 02 Accomplishment in 2020

Bunch of great accomplishments.

I do not usually share my personal driving moments but unusual year so here's 1.

Annual change of plugs and oil with a complete nut and bolt check on the Rotobimmer yesterday, fresh tank of pump premium and a 3 gallon splash of 104 octane with the usual 1oz per gallon Redline 2 stroke oil pre mix.

Coming back this morning at sunrise on an empty PCH had a few 3 digit driving minutes with a paper plate Orange M2.

Pretty woman, solid driver, beautiful car in my rear view mirror and she started it, no ticket.

Put the Roto Bimmer away stopped shaking about 10 minutes later. Been smiling all day.

Be humble and kind to everyone in 2021.

Probably blowing up my first engine, and in spectacular fashion! The short block was in the car when I bought it three years ago and in March a main cap came loose and snapped the crankshaft!

A month later I disassembled, cleaned thoroughly, replaced some things and reassembled another block, got it running and still managed to put roughly 2000 miles on it, almost exclusively on long drives and rallies with friends.

Probably redoing my interior. Still the same Esty carpet kit from 11 years ago, but I had my Recaros redone with a fabric that my father made while working at Recaro in the 80s (Porsche pinstripe). He never used it so I continued his vision in my car. And the wacky steering wheel we added last week.

Also....some of your undercarriages are WAY too clean ;)

So 2020 was for sure a bit of a strange year. My biggest accomplishment is honestly me just being here.  I had the pleasure of spending 17 days in February/March in the hospital, having an autologous bone marrow transplant because of a  blood cancer known as Multiple Myeloma.  The good news is they have a 94% success rate and continue to make great strides in the treatment. So will be okay I think.?   Anyways back to my 2002. I must agree with several posts on what a great site this is and let me get my mind on more fun things, like my 2002.

I spent most my time on lots of small details, new center console, correct gaskets and had my valve cover and stress bar powder coated. Also new spring pads and such.

I did spend some money on cool stuff. I found some 3 piece Panasports and a new used gas tank to install.

I also have a pair of Recaro's that I bought but have yet to install.

So looking forward to a busy and normal 2021.  Looking forward to Spring.

wow, that transplant is a big one. Nice job still being here!

My big accomplishment is buying my first 2002. Hopefully I can claim another accomplishment tomorrow by getting it running again after sorting out the ignition.

Didn't do a ton to my car other than changing the oil and plugs.  Re-set the timing in early Spring, that kind of thing.

Biggest accomplishment was probably taking it on the RGB fall drive in late Oct.  The car was being worked on most of '19, so I really hadn't driven it too much since then - lots of little jaunts around home.  So the usual small leap of faith to drive the car for five or six hours in a day w/the RGB gang.  Was great to get re-acquainted...it had been a long time since I drove it that far in a day.  5D75DAB6-7C92-4AA0-BFFA-86219B309EDE_1_105_c.jpeg

Only did 4 tours all local. Best one was to honor Jeff Taylor, a fellow Nor'East '02er, a friend we lost to cancer this year. Many of us regularly share a toast to his memory.

What a great post-Christmas present!  All these beautiful cars and their caring owners.

Last Feb. I purchased my 10th vintage BMW. The first was a new 1971 1600. First and only new BMW ever, $3,000.                 Followed by a string of Bavarias and Coupes. And now I have returned to the fold.

Lilli is a 1976 Chaminox  2002 with 79,000 miles on the ODO. She has ac, automatic(my choice), new Blunttech chrome bumpers, Weber, Koni's, Pertronix, big sway bars, and an NK steering wheel you will see if I can load photos.

Right now Lilli is in the shop. Bad water pump led to a blown head gasket which led to a small crack in the head. Waiting on the  repaired head with a hotter cam. My mechanic has turned the 76 exhaust manifold almost into a tii type.

The ugly faux wood, Kitchen Contact Paper instrument cluster has been replaced with a black one with a tach.  A 2" round, Arabic numeral clock will go where the tii clock goes. And no I have no intentions or aspirations of doing a tii tribute dash.

I will also be installing one of  patinahandle@hotmail.com   's cup holders. Bolts to the passenger seat rail next to the tunnel.

Well it is an automatic, have to have something to do with my hands.

Once she is back on the road she should run a little better and happier. I hope.

Thanks to all,

Steve O'Neill

I can relate to cooper. I blew my motor up, took it apart, and rebuilt it. That was a first for me, and it also looked like it might have been the motors first time being rebuilt. So far I have about 1500 miles on it since then and I have had no issues so it seems like I probably put everything in the right place...
