Break In Complete

506 mile engine break in procedure is complete. Head retorqued, one valve was out of spec by 1/1000. Oil changed to 20/50.

Tech rewired the wipers to be work correctly with the stalk switch and wiper speed works now. All the grill slats were reglued and the missing one replaced.

The only problems/issues I've encountered/fixed:

I had to retorque the all lug nuts as 3 had become loose on the driver side rear wheel, the rest of the wheels were fine.

First night drive, noticed tach lights are not working, and headlights need to be aimed.

VSR has taken a complete running tired 1973 Tii, from September 18, 2017 to April 19, 2018 completely rebuilt the car from the ground up to a complete running fresh new 1973 Tii.

The minor issues I've encountered speak volumes to the quality and attention to detail that VSR does. No rattles squeaks or clunks.

As token of appreciation I bought everyone who worked on Vern, a 1/43 scale White Box Verona Tii and gave Mario a 1/24 scale Anson Verona Tii with driving lights.

All I got was some stinking yellow tape and a 1984 Oktoberfest mug! Does anyone make Verona tape? LOL

Now Vern and I are off to the Mid America '02 Fest in Eureka Springs, Arkansas a 3600+ mile round trip. Hoping for better weather than last year's torrential flooding rain.

See you on the road!

Andrew & Vern

Driving Impressions

367 miles of the 500 mile engine break in complete. Spent 4/18 driving 168 miles on back roads from Brunswick to Freeport to Gardiner to Wiscassett to Damariscotta to Brunswick. Some of the roads were pretty rough and there are no squeaks rattles or clunks. Vern's handling is very tight and predictable, love the new H&R springs, feels very sure footed. Was able take a "recommended 15mph"turn at 35. Tomorrow it's back to VSR for for an oil change, head torquing and valve adjustment and a few punch list items.

Vern Model & Cookies

1/43 scale Vern, proving Verona and Tan or Tobacco was an option outside the U.S. A friend gave me the Verona cookies.

White Box makes a great Verona 1/43 scale model with the alloys available on ebay.

One piece dash is in. The correct two piece dash is in Las Vegas at the restorers and may not be done for quite some time unfortunately.

Interior is complete except for the passenger seat and shift knob.

Now the windshield can be installed.

Still waiting for hood trim and the grills from Speedway.

Nice pic of the engine through the grills. Used to have the wrong Tii badge on the tail panel, a previous owner had put on a '74 Tii badge which is longer and has a curve on the back. That's also one of the roundels I've painted. This new on is correct. Interior is going together, still need the side rear seatbelt retractors installed. Love how everything is so nice and clean.

Delivered nicer vent window frames I bought on ebay, painted roundel and gauge cluster chrome ring set from Poland.

Tremendous progress! Doors, headlights, firewall insulation, turn signals, quarter windows, both bumpers, 3rd brake light, hood and sunroof panel are all sanded and buffed. Engine was scheduled to be installed today, injectors were removed and sent out to be re-tested. There's another Tii there and at start up blew 2 injection lines! So as a precaution mine were sent out too. I took a lot of pictures.

Vern is starting to look more like himself!

Rain gutter trim, B pillar trim, window and door seals & rear window, Hirschman Jewel Tip, sunroof rails with rear drains re-routed to fender wells, steering column & steering wheel are all installed.

Wheels are all painted & clear coated.

Wiring harness unwrapped repaired and re-wrapped. Trunk was being sorted while I was there.

Front bumper was installed today, they were working on the headlights & buckets when I left.

Spent the past couple of days repainting Vern's hood roundel. This time I'm painting a back up as well. Used Rodney the M5's roundel plate for color matching the blue, which is pretty darn close for having to mix the blue paints. The lighting in the garage skews the color a little.

Amazing progress in the past week!

Vern is almost done being wet sanded including his hood, trunk, doors and sunroof.

Seeing him all painted is such a milestone, it signals it's time to reassemble.

Wheels have been epoxy primed, painted aluminum silver with a satin clear.

Driver seat was repaired a while ago, never took a picture until now.

Engine is being assembled and should be ready by next week.

I just kept saying "WOW" & "This is awesome!"

Word from Mario. Vern's trunk, hood and sunroof are all painted. Body is currently being wet sanded with 3K grit before polishing.

Headliner has been reinforced by the upholstery shop and is being prepped for installation

Head is back and is being assembled. Bottom end of engine is already done.

Dash is in process.

My next visit is Wednesday Feb 28

If any one is wondering about the correct shutz pattern for a '73Tii, this is what the factory did based on an unrestored '73Tii.

Huge amount of work has all come together culminating in final paint.

The paint will cure for several weeks while the engine is rebuilt. The bottom end is already assembled, head should be back from the machine shop Feb. 28th.

Vern is in paint! Doors are done. Trunk interior, wheel wells and engine bay have 2 coats. Trunk lid and hood undersides are done. When I talked to Steve he was very optimistic the body would be in color by the end of day Friday Feb. 23rd.

With how twisted and bent the nose was and how much work it took, I'm super happy with the results. Final panel fitting today before epoxy priming. Had to correct the fender/door gap as new sheetmetal needed quite a bit of work to fit properly. Of course the top seam of the fender to nose will be welded as the factory did.

Bumpers came back from the chrome shop.
