  1. I did the Keith Kreeger replacement method in 2011, not a problem since. I cut a rubber strip from an old inner tube and wound it around the fuel pump to take up the spacing in the original mounting bracket .... still there, still doing the job. Cheers. Carl
  2. The article is at Motor Trend and is giving me "access denied" to all the links I paste here. So here's the link to the article ..... www.MotorTrend (dot) com/news/bmw-2002-history-variants/ Cheers, Carl
  3. The BMW 2002 has always been head of the Klasse - Hagerty Media WWW.HAGERTY.COM Andrew English often feels tempted by the timeless sport-sedan allure of the BMW 2002, if not just to recapture his lost youth. Cheers, Carl
  4. 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo 5-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - ending December 18 (Lot #131,076) | Bring a Trailer BRINGATRAILER.COM Bid for the chance to own a 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo 5-Speed at auction with Bring a Trailer, the home of the best vintage and classic cars online. Lot #131,076. Cheers, Carl
  5. 49 years ago today for the very first time: the '74tii drove onto the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA. And then parked in this very parking lot for the very first time ...... Cheers, Carl
  6. I saw you there wandering around. And we were sorta/kinda "twins:" you didn't drive any of your cars and I didn't drive my '74tii. Cheers, Carl
  7. Metallic, What is the part number of that Eichlin VR you got from Napa ?? Since you're having good luck with it, I'll get one. --- my own "ancient" notes show a part number: VR 503, so I'm checking & double-checking. Cheers, Carl
  8. re. Voltage Regulator Paul Wegweiser will tell you, "..... these days most voltage regulators are junk." Which is pretty much exactly what Paul told me a few weeks ago. Here is my Sad Story. I wanted a new voltage regulator for my parts box. So my local parts shop got me a new Beru. (1) So I unplugged my old one (which works just fine) and plugged-in the new Beru. I turned the ignition key to "on" ..... and the "L" light did not light up, as it is supposed to do. (2) I then started the engine, let a run about 30 seconds, then turned off the engine. The "L" light again did not light up, as it is supposed to do while the engine stops turning. So I returned the VR. The parts guy dug deeper, found another Beru part number that matches for a '74tii, and ordered it ..... it arrived 2 days later. Back at the house with the new one, I again did Steps (1) and (2) ...... with the same result: the "L" light never ever lit up. So I'm still in a quandry, trying to find a Voltage Regulator that works. Cheers, Carl
  9. When your favorite and most-trusted mechanic calls you up and says, "hey, some guy wandered into the shop and said he had a flat tire and needed a jack. So I gave him the one I found in your trunk and told him to keep it."
  10. WOW, perfect timing for this topic !!! The teeny tiny cable on the '74tii passenger seat finally rusted through and parted. Sadly, the cable break location is 5 inches above the right (vertical) side of the cable at that impossible-to-reach hook. So that bottom end photo posted by dlefebvre02 is exactly what my aged eyes need to understand what that end connection looks like. Much Appreciated !! So now it's time to brainstorm a redneck fixit using a stainless bicycle cable, thanks much to John76 for that idea !! Cheers, Carl
  11. found this elsewhere on the worldwide internet .......... Cheers, Carl
  12. AWESOME !! I'm reasonably certain that is Hwy 154, a bit north of Lake Cachuma, heading south to Santa Barbara. Only 14 miles to Cold Spring Tavern !! Cheers, Carl
  13. I just found this ...... see Item 4: Movie Cars: The Graduate - 5 Things About the Red Alfa Duetto Spider AUTOMEDIA.REVSINSTITUTE.ORG The Alfa Romeo Duetto that Dustin Hoffman drove in the movie “The Graduate” is one of the most famous Alfa models ever made. Immediately below Item 4 is a short video of the Alfa heading to and through the Gaviota Tunnel on Hwy 101. How many of us 2002 drivers have driven through that tunnel ?? Cheers, Carl
  14. Here's another idea for "the problem." Twice now on my '74tii the head gasket "let go" between cylinders 3 & 4. SO, how about a tiny piece of Pablo's head gasket "let go" just enough in the right place to cause the problem on cylinder #2 ?? Cheers, Carl
  15. Mike, Thanks Much !! No immediate plans to fix the original switch: I actually bought a second new one from Maximillian, just because. The original switch: I had disassembled it a few times to understand the inner workings, and discovered the actual problem. And I couldn't fix the actual problem (worn-out plastic). So I simply got bored and let JB Weld "solve" the problem. So if I need a project, I'll try again to fix it. Cheers, Carl
  16. The original Hazard Warning Switch "failed" 30-some years ago, was JB Weld'ed back together, and has been sitting there smiling at me since then, mounted next to the ash tray. Well, a few weeks ago Maximillian had new switches for sale, so I figured why not. Two Versions: up to 1973 ..... then 1974 onward. I of course ordered the 1974 version. The difference between the two: 8 prongs for the 1973 and earlier ...... 6 prongs for the 1974 and later. The new switch arrives a few days later. I remove the original switch and try to plug in the new one for a quick test: no go. I look closer: my original has 8 prongs !!! Sheesh, my '74tii has a '73 switch in it with 8 prongs !! Go figure, just my luck. I contact Maximillian. He says to return it and he will get the '73 into the mail. The new '73 switch arrived an hour ago, it has 8 prongs. It plugs right into the connector, then I hold my breath and push the red button ..... all the blinkers begin blinking !!! WOW !!! Just Like New !! So with minimal effort I then get the switch properly installed where it belongs. I hope the value of my '74tii will go up by at least $5K with a brand-new Hazard Switch that actually works. Cheers, Carl
  17. Since my '74tii only gets a car cover on non-rainy days, I took the easy way. I bought 2 nothing-fancy least-expensive cloth car covers from the local Pep Boys. I put one onto the car, then put on the second cover over the first. Then some zip ties around the edges to keep 'em together. Voila, a 2-layer cover. Works just fine to protect paint and interior from the sun. Cheers, Carl
  18. WELL NUTS !!!!! Another lesson to be learned. As noted above, I ordered a new switch from Maximillian. It arrived today ...... Wrong Switch !!!!!! The Max ad said, -- 8 prong up to '73. -- 6 prong '74 and onward. I of course ordered the 6-prong ..... and those folks at the factory fooled me 49 years ago by installing a Hazard Switch for a '73 or earlier !!!! Sheesh !!! LESSON: look at your Hazard Switch ..... don't assume you have the correct year installed. Cheers, Carl
  19. LarryS, your temp fix is still working ..... good deal !! Those are the best fixes. My JB Weld "fix" is likewise still working, so I must have (finally) done something right. But, for good or bad, I'm about to upgrade. Maximillian had a new hazard switch for sale, so I bought one, should arrive this week. I'm now quite nervous about "fixing" what hasn't been "broken" for a couple of decades or more. There's certainly a lesson to be learned, and I haven't yet figured it out. Cheers, Carl
  20. I've used Water Wetter for several years. If it does what it is supposed to do, I can't be certain. But I use it "just because." Cheers, Carl
  21. I have enough trouble just trying to add gasoline without making a huge mess, so cleaning the rims is just too scary to even think about !! Cheers, Carl
  22. 49 years ago today the '74tii rolled off the assembly line !! So I went out for a drive and encountered some local critters ....... Cheers, Carl
