Finished the front sub frame!

Looks great.

(forgive my note below ... I loathe the appearance of being a know-it-all, but I believe this matters ...)

From here, it looks like the large, convex washer you have at the ‘back’ end of the radius rods (on the back side of the control arm) is the washer which belongs on the front of the radius rod, behind the large bushing which fits through the subframe (up by the tow hooks). The washer as it sits probably doesn’t hurt anything, but if you swapped and put the small washer up front, that small washer may allow more deflection of the forward bushing than you want (sorry ... not very clear). -KB

I think....all welding complete! Full rocker and lower quarter on one side. Front of rocker only on drivers side. If you have not bought one of these cheap Bluetooth cameras that hook up to your phone and give you glimpses in tiny places do it! Kept me from replacing things that were not rusted out.

I believe you're right!  When I had my suspension done a few years ago that shop made the same mistake.

Scored a pair of ca blue plates for my 76 on ebay. They can be reassigned to a 70s car as long as they are no longer in the DMV system and I think the ones I got are not because there are no records whatsoever for smog checks and the last sticker is from 87. Let’s see how it goes next week.

I found a used hub with nice square-top splines and rusted useless lug bolts.  Today, I drove out the bolts, cleaned the hub, and installed the bolts from the worn out hub (pointed spines) I am discarding.  $40 (used) vs. $300-$560 (new).

Installed a speaker in the glovebox ( has anybody else done this??). Also adjusted the valves in preparation to first start-up in 9 years.  Could not believe how clean the innards of this engine are, after 175,000 miles.

Friday after work I stayed a bit longer and made some foorming dies to press the indentation for the rain tray in the engine compartment.

I haven't tried it yet but this was the result I was getting with a crudly made one.

I first 3D printed a smaller test piece to get the overall shape pretty close.

I decided to round the sides to hopefully prevent hard lines from forming in the panels. I've never made a die like this before though.
