What did you do to your 2002 today !

Added an adjustable redline needle to the tach using a clock window and an e30 speedo needle. I had to cut the needle down to make it fit but no biggie. I forgot how much fun removing the cluster was! ?

snapped a photo of M10 engine failure (not mine) - not something you'll typically see on a street car.

"Is that bad?"

Classic comedy.  Real stunt drivers, so many wrecked cars... no CG.  I might need to watch that tonight...

Nice clip from Willow Springs, to Ken.  Sounded like a bunch of angry hornets  :)

Chamonix ‘73

I was tired of looking at that greasy grimey lump so I decided to do something about it. It’s amazing what some Marine Clean and a pressure washer can do for an engine.

I started scratching around at the OEM fenders... trying to save that trailing edge seems like a big job. I’m gonna blow some time on the aftermarket ones instead.

Then I fitted and cleco’d the nose back on the car and started working over the aftermarket fenders. The Turbo air dam hadn’t seen the light of day in some time so I thought I’d drag it out. ?

Wiring is all hooked up, but I need to rethink my plan of trying to tuck this under the dash.  Think it's going to end up in the center console area.

Fuel system all done and wired up.  Car fires right up.

Was it one of those “ I can’t believe I was so worried about how hard this was gonna be” moments?

Yeah! that was kinda the way I felt about changing my rear brake shoes after listening to everyone moan about the infamous W spring and what a B%$#& is was to install. It literally took me 10 seconds to install that spring.

Today I gave the 2002 some exercise, drove about 170 miles down the I-5 freeway and back for a Mom visit.  Calculated 28.3 mpg this time. kept it around 65-75mph for a good part of the course, windows closed but sunroof partially open.  She ran like a top.

Was getting ready for a trip south  this weekend to get some work done in Seattle. The CoronaVirus  has put an end to that for the foreseeable future. A voluntary travel ban to the US has just been placed in affect.

Cheers,

You did make me think a bit. I have recently discovered my speedometer has begun to read high. Currently about 7 mph faster around 65 mph.  I checked my log and the round trip mileage is still the same, so my odometer is still correct but my speedometer has become generous.   Assuming with 5 speed,  2780rpm = 60mph and 3500rpm = 75 mph.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
