I too started with this same resource as I embarked on my 5 speed swap. I ended up using a bunch of different resources though, as I found there were so many details I didn't inherently know how to do. FWIW, below is the list of links I collected and referred to along the way (to a successful swap!):

Hi Cubby,

let me add some details if allowed:

The 6-bolt-guibo in one of your pics seems to be installed wrong. The thicker segments are pressed when driving forwards, the thinner segments are the drawn ones.

We had this theme some years ago here in the german 02-forum because a certain charge of the guibos had wrong markings. The stamped arrows have to indicate to the flanges. I myself had two guibos with opposite / different markings.

In any case and with any supplier, the quality of today is lousy. We had lots of troubles with this here.

There is an E53 X5 guibo where the arrows are intended to be “backwards” because it is used for the front driveshaft, at the front differential. They spin backwards relative to the rear wheel driveshaft. These guibos otherwise look identical to the “624” ones. They can be used in olace of a 624, IF they are installed with the arrows pointing backwards to normal, thicker sections are compressed under forward load.

E53 X5 and others, front driveshaft guibo with backwards arrows. 26 11 7 503 159

Normal E21 and many others 6-bolt guibo. 26 11 1 225 624

Hope This Helps,

Guys, I am so sorry for chiming in so late and letting everyone down. In all honesty I made this thread years ago when I was in the process of 5-speed swapping myself so my research was frequent, knowledge was fresh and pictures were present. Fast forward to now and I'm useless regarding this topic. Most of the pictures were pulled from other threads/internet resources at the time, majority of which apparently suffered some image hosting issues or got deleted. Good luck on your quests to find reliable info regarding this swap! Hopefully some hero recreates this thread, updated and proper.

No worries!  Lots of things have been updated since you started this thread.  Blunt now offers (2) different kits for the 245 and is working on one for the 240 (83+) 5 speed transmission.  Once I get everything ready, I'll update my 2002ti project blog with my 5 speed 245 conversion.

Still would like to know if anyone knows who makes that mounting bracket.  I know I've seen it somewhere but I can't find it.

Rob at 2002haus made one very similar. Unfortunately NLA.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
