What did you do to your 2002 today !

Tried to polish a turd.  I had to sand off so much paint just to get to here. This paint was really terrible. I had to sand with 400, then 1000 then 2000 before I could even try to polish. And even then there are still bad spots. Oh well, just trying to get by for a year or so until I get the energy/motivation to paint a car again.

400?  Wow, I thought I had it bad when I was wet sanding with 800.  I'm in the same boat.  I'm not ready to paint it yet, but I also don't want to have to drive around with a paper bag over my head ?  I'd say overall, my car is looking "presentable".

I was sure I would need to have my sun visors recovered since I replaced the headliner... Thanks to@nyNick and his goop magic I'm finally ready to reinstall them. Thank you for helping to keep the sun out of my eyes and the money in my pockets!

A redline a day keeps the carbon away? First redline(s) since the rebuild. I've put enough miles on it now that I am comfortable starting to really drive. Wow! The 292 opens up quite a bit at the high RPMs!

@Bibm5 I have old dead mold stains all over my headliner and visors...  What is this goop stuff you speak of?

Maybe I should be getting royalties...; )

Wow, that is an amazingly coincidental picture!  Looks like you at least had a much better foundation to work with!  Like you, I'm just trying to make this car a bit more presentable until I get around to painting it properly.  I painted my 240Z earlier this year and I find I can only stand painting a car every 2 or 3 years.

When I saw your picture, I had to toss mine in there because they ware almost identical ?

I'm not sure I started with anything better than you, other than it had fewer deep blemishes.  The paint is cracked and crazed, but from 10 feet, it looks reasonable.

The car started out as Sahara, then painted twice over with two slightly different shades of Malaga.  I actually had to sand all the way through 2nd Malaga paint job, down to the 1st because the top paint job won't hold a shine.  Soooooo much work!  I've probably got 20 plus hours into it and I'm not done yet.  Luckily the two shades of Malaga are slightly different so I can tell when I make it through one paint job to the next.

Today I pulled my new alternator and put the grinder to the exposed threads beyond the retaining nut. I needed a few more mm of clearance for the fan. I didn't think I could tackle switching pulleys from the previous alternator.  Also noticed that the pulley on the new one has a slightly larger diameter. Good times.

Mine is the same, horribly cracked and crazed.  This one is originally Malaga, with one repaint a long, long time ago.  Once I get through the respray to the original paint, it shines up pretty nicely but unfortunately if I go that far, I uncover the ugly blmishes you can see.  Oh well, it still doesn't look great but it does look a LOT better.

This is a show run by the local Mercedes Benz club but there was a good turnout from the usual suspects. Unfortunately my 5 year old son seemed to prefer the big Grosse MBs. I was a little bit obsessed with the Ron Goodman 356.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
