Boring... but pulled my VR and ground away the paint and installed nice bolts with washers between VR and sheetmetal

 

I don’t have jumpy dial syndrome but people swear by this “fix” so WTF. Another reason to drink beer and sweat my nads off in this damn Raleigh humidity

 

Plus I have to test drive and a run up to White Street Brewing for a couple Kolsch’s ?

 

Oh yeah, also was ordering parts for my C230 brake job and oil cooler leak and needed $40 more for free shipping... so ordered 2 oil filters and 2 qts of MTL gear oil for my upcoming 02 oil and tranny flush. 

 

A fun Saturday all in all!

Ouch! That sucks! Although I must say. I’ve never heard the term ‘slightly’ impaired. It’s like binary- either you are or your not impaired no such thing as ‘slightly’

Finished my sound/heat/vibration isolation project.  I did the rear a couple of weeks ago, did the front doors this time:

My lock release rods had no bushings, so they rattled all the time.  I didn't have the bushings from W&N, so I dug up some old MBZ cable mounts that have a push-lock for mounting in chassis holes.  I cut the tie off and used the mounts as bushings.

Door cards a brand new, so I want to keep them protected.

I've used soft, pliable plastic as a water barrier in the past.  Gets a little floppy installing, and deforms when you pull it off.  I considered the self-adhesive 1 meter sheets that W&N offers, but by the time I get it here it will be $20 bucks a sheet!  It gave me an idea, though.  Thought I'd try a polyester material for a change.  I hoped for something like 0.005" thickness, but the only thing handy was clear cellophane wrapping paper ($5 bucks for a roll of 50 ft)...

It's a little tricky to work with, but as long as you avoid tearing an edge, it is strong and reasonable to work with.  I used a little spray-on contact cement, and it was perfect.  Makes a good seal and strips off easily.

 

My driver-side door has been giving me fits; very hard to close, and sometimes if latched properly, my key couldn't turn the tumbler - too much pressure. 

Firstly, I cleaned all of the hardware and adjusted slightly the door position for better panel alignment.  Window seats better too.

The gasket had come loose on the lower half of the B-pillar, so it was interfering more than anything.

Turpentine had no effect, but solvent worked to soften the old glue.  I could use my favorite tool to wedge under the glue to lift it off - bamboo chopstick shaved to a wedge shape!

Finally had a clean surface and could use some good silicone gasket glue.

Ran a bead and gasket dropped perfectly into place.

Wow, what a difference!  The doors close with a nice, satisfying "thunk".  They grab properly and close fully.  The whole car feels more solid and is quieter after these insulation projects.

I had the grills out to adjust the hood for proper alignment.  The driver's side was close enough to get scratched by the wiper hub.  Since I had the grills off, I decided to paint the two vertical hood mounts black.

I hadn't caught this in the past, but I realized I have one deep, and one shallow Grill! Different finish too.  Crap!
