What did you do to your 2002 today !

Recommended Posts

This morning I choked up a bit on the IE ,rear anti sway bars for good effect. Also cheated and wrapped a hose clamp around both rear exhaust hangers to tighten things up. Probably not permanent,  but it solved the rattling muffler at least for now.  Also picked up my driver seat from the upholstery shop. He may have added t00 much padding, perhaps it will settle over time.  And yesterday, pretty much finished up installing a new carpet kit and after market seat belts. Working belts, what a concept!

Since this car is driven year round, I've modified an old piece of rubber floor mat from my Grandmas 1965 Buick Le sabre that I briefly drove after she lost her driving privileges in 1980.That same piece of floor mat served in my 1977 Westfalia camper for 20yrs. Man am I cheap.

Anywho, it was a good day for the o2, it's nice to make progress and she's running like a top.

Going back together after a strip and clean up of brakes, suspension hubs etc and a few new bits.

Now running Jaymic fixed camber plates

Bilsten HD's (all ready had these on)

Eibach sport springs

New wheel bearings

New discs and pads

Already running all new OEM rubbers.

New bottom of strut bolts locktite and safety wired

Wheel wells scrubbed, rust treated, painted, and absolutely soaked in every crevice with waxoyl.

The waxoyl thing is great, gets everywhere especially with the applicator.

im going over the whole car with rust treatment and waxoyl, I've also got Eastwood for the enclosed chassis legs etc and for the rear shock tower / top of wheel wells if you know what I mean.

Rear next all new rear breakes, new drums, shoes, springs, wheel cylinders, also servos out and painted and all new rubber and hard brake lines.

Oh and eibachs on the back of course.

Anyway a few pics.

Odds & ends ... such as installing the plastic threshholds, finishing wiring for my auxiliary gauges, working on my console's fit, trying to adjust window fitment ... aiyiyiyi!!!

I'm still waiting for my reupholstered seats, but in the meantime I threw a spare seat into the driver position. Can't wait to drive.

The car goes to 515 Motorsport next week for expert installation of the ECU/harness/ignition module and completion of the conversion to fuel injection.

It could be running soon!

Technically last night, but I finally got around to fixing the axle bolts in my car. Fished these bits out of the output flange and put all new hardware. Going to tackle the passenger side this weekend just so there's fresh hardware all the way around.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
