  1. I don't think you would see very much if any loss of value if you repainted your car in any factory color if you paint the whole thing bare in mind just about the whole car is painted in the factory color so to do it right you'll need to remove just about everything that can be removed.
  2. Sounds to me like you still have air in the clutch hydraulics they can be a bitch to bleed. You might try getting a clean trigger pump oil can and attach a hose to the end of it and hook it to the clutch bleed valve and bleed it backwards, be sure to remove some brake fluid from the reservoir first to prevent overflow.
  3. I use Permatex #2 aviation sealer it's the stuff in the tooth paste tube, Just run a bead right around the outside chamfer of the plug and drive it in with a socket that just fits the inside of the plug never had one leek on any type of engine. My tube is running pretty low now but I've had it for about 40 years as this is its only use.
  4. I was digging the selectric too, probably the last machine built in the USA that was truly indestructible, As to the car the bumper over riders look like its a 72
  5. Years ago back in the roadfly days there was a old rusty BMW 1800 listed on e-bay in so cal for 650 bucks, it was a TIsa my circumstances at the time just wouldn't let me get it belive me I tried hard to figure a way but no dice so I tried to get someone on the board to go check it out but no one did it sold for 550 bucks, I still wake at night thinking about it.
  6. I've moved a shell with the doors, hood, and trunk lid on with 4 BIG guys and it was pretty iffy but doable for a short distance. Run 2 4x4s just behind the front wheel well and just ahead of the rear and every one grabs a end just remember that LIFTING S A BREEZE WHEN YOU BEND AT THE KNEES.
  7. Yes 6x10 and 10mm long full thread with a wave washer and your good to go
  8. When I was taking classes for my aircraft licensee a Fluke factory guy took one of their meters and with out the case and throw it Randy Johnson fast fastball style against a cinder block wall and then put it on the calibration machine and it matched specs, that being said look to Sears for good multi function meter on sale that will do everything a Fluke will do minus the brick wall for a LOT less money
  9. I don't have a picture but I mounted mine above the right headlight used s small piece of aluminum angle on the right side and the shelf in front of the rad on the left. I also mounted it using some old aircleaner rubber mounts that were lying around.
  10. When I built mine I did 2 tricycle sections, somewhat like 2 overlarge engine stands facing each other, the tied both together with a adjustable center bar. This was strong enough to load the car suspended on the rotisserie onto a flatbed when I moved.
  11. The last cold start valve I bought, admittedly many moons ago, came with a Volvo parts sticker and was identical in form and function to the tii one so it's probable that it's just a stock Bosch part.
  12. All the auto glass company's I've seen store and ship glass vertically. As adawil2002 said with padding old carpet seems to be the norm but cardboard should do just fine for storage
  13. You have to wonder how far down the road they got before the ungreased front hubs burnt up on them.Real nice job on the body work though and a neat video that should be a must see for all 2002 restorations.
  14. I vote for #1 too, Maybe aftermarket sport springs and billie HD's and bigger bars just for the fun of driving it but don't do any mods that are more than bolt on's
  15. Winston, Safety wire will be stainless steel and non magnetic. But if I was going to safety wire something for more than show I would start will a known reel of wire just to be sure its not that expensive and you'll sleep better at night, .
  16. Welcome Raffa, If you are going to do heavy modifications to a 2002 I would think that the condition of the car would be more important than the model as all 1600/2002 are basically the same car, I would imagine that there are few rust free 2002 left in Germany so start with the best body you can find
  17. Just found this thread, but that is just how I made mine when my factory bypass rusted out in about 1985 and it still works. One thing you might do is split a old hose and use it by the starter to prevent any rubbing as that copper is real soft and will lose the friction battle with the steel on the starter. P.S. that's a nice score on the tubing tool set I bet that would cost you at least $600 bucks to buy new gotta love a good garage sale with real tools.
  18. Thanks Guys lots of good info here, never thought about office chairs but I will go with that for sure you can pick up one for free just by driving through a office park, the doors won't be a problem due to the shape of the shop but good to get out there to prevent someone from having a DOH moment after a lot of work. The designer thinks we can go with 10' walls with out dwarfing the house and get another 18" in the middle with the rafter shape. the lights are going to be recessed between the rafters so they will be flush with the ceiling. Anyway it's taken me 40 years to get to the point of having a real shop so I'm getting pretty worked up about it. Thanks all, Marty
  19. I'm getting together with my architect Friday to start the design for our new shop. How high a ceiling will I need to get a 02 up on a lift? I'm a 6 footer and old enough to not bend well. thanks Marty

  22. I've had 2 golf 74's and the both had the black extended to cover the radiator support where it could be seen through the grills. Like it was stated before done by free hand and just sort of slopped on.
  23. Looking at the pic I my first thought was a small piece of the gear or something got drawn between the teeth and blammo your done
