  1. My first 2002 a very early 72 was configured just like this with the 12 fuse electrical system, I have always thought that BMW's reputation for using up old stock on newer models was cemented with this ragged change over.
  2. Yes for some unknown reason the clutch circuit gets a lot more crap build up than the brake side I've never figured it out but have seen it many many times.
  3. Yes what Tom said, it also looks like the shifter platform has quite a bit of play in it there are 2 rubber/metal bushings that attach it to the rear of the tranny housing that are held in with 2 allen head bolts eather the bolts are loose or the bushings are toast, replace and re-tighten these (with loc-tite) while your in there.
  4. I took "the belly" to be the underside of the car, the floor pan was a better job of painting but still not up to the exterior paint quality
  5. The arms are different between the long neck diff cars and the short neck cars one or the other has a wider base but I don't recall which one it is, but all of the short neck arms will interchange
  6. I have found several Badger brand air brushes at garage sales for a few bucks each and have used them to paint smaller parts like the hood hinges and bolts to match them to the factory color and they work well with enough practice but it's a matter of scale it would take about a week to get one coat on the whole car but for small areas like you have their fine, just practice on a scrap piece a few times to get the hang of it first.
  7. Yes, but it's not painted directly more of a quick point and squirt so most of them loose color towards the center and show more of the primer color if you get what I mean.
  8. Dude, just google Don Garletts foot injury and count your blessings
  9. The package the wheel came in will spec the max rpm don't exceed it or you will bleed, if its rated at 4000 rpm use a drill and it will strip like a banshee if it's rated to 10,000 rpm then use your angle grinder.
  10. Both lines are made to melt shut in case of fire keep them well away from your heat gun or they may melt.
  11. Zach, damn you and your project Blinky I'll be watching all day and the wife is going to be pissed. Oh well a mans got to do what a mans got to do
  12. Yes 3M makes the same thing, these are the bomb for stripping paint and rust off flat surfaces, but I would hesitate to use it on the tar sound deadening I'm afraid it would just clog up and you would have to toss it but once the tar is gone have at it
  13. Yes as Simeon said you'll need to remove all the tar and check all the floors but it looks like you should be able to patch it, the rust pattern showing on both sides of the tranny hump suggests to me that the heater box to fire wall seal is leeking
  14. The car transferred to Hoffman before it went on the boat as they all did back then, the car looks to be in good shape with the original engine good buy.
  15. Ok the last pictures with the belt on is showing bushing wear I would replace them with some poly ones from any of the FAQ vendors the rubber ones just don't last see if that take care of your squealing.
  16. I agree the alt. pulley looks to be square to the crank pulley and if it was the bushings it would be tilted in toward the engine
  17. The 74 model year had the seat belt interlock system, most people figured out early on you could just unplug the seat sensor system and the car would start with out having to buckle up this works fine but the start signal would still go through the under dash relay this relay has likely worn out and can't pass the current to the solenoid, do a search for 74 2002 seat belt interlock there is plenty of advice on how to by pass the relay.
  18. Yes it could be added to reduce interference with the AM band, probably after everything else was tried, on E28s it was part of the heated wiper spray nozzle option so I guess that grounding through the hinges was marginal at best.
  19. Just the other day Esty recommended Weldwood vinyl roof/landau top contact cement for this job she says none of the 3M products have a high enough heat rating when it comes to interiors I would sure follow Esty's advice.
  20. Old gas is why I always buy a lawn mower with a Briggs and Straton engine they will run on anything that resembles gas even if it's 30 years old
  21. I'm afraid interference may cause tread lock between the gas pedal and my Ho Chi Minh sandals!!!!
  22. Somewhere in Canada Red Green is smiling
  23. I would take it to a auto body supply store and ask the guy on the paint side what he thinks would be the right way to do it, today's paint are complex and if you don't do the proper prep and use the right paint you'll have nothing but trouble
  24. I also broke a 3 arm puller on a hub when it broke it shot a 1/4"x 2" sliver of metal hard enough to bounce off the cement floor and puncture the tire I put under the rear of the rocker, it sliced my leg badly when I slid out to find out what the hissing sound was, the sliver was beyond razor sharp and I knew it hit the floor because it went into the tire at a upward angle.
  25. 6500 'Merican' dollars a little rich for me but very nice to look at.
