Sport hunting in Germany has been a  long standing tradition for hundreds of years and a big part of there managed forrest policy which is probably the best in  Europe and started centurys befor the tree hugers came to light. I would be shocked to find a German hunter take more than his limit on anything.

If everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then someone is not thinking.

Carl, you have yet to explain why you're driving around in your 02 with a carcass of a wild boar in the passenger seat.

As the driver of a German car, it must be obvious:  Carl's well on his way to cooking up some jaegerschnitzel.  Step one in the process:  shoot some wild game and bring it home...

But if you really want to do it right, you need a bag full of mushrooms in the trunk.

No, not that kind of mushrooms.  The foraged kind, rooted out while hunting the boar.  For the Jägerschnitzel.

Well maybe that kind would work too, it’s that kind of thread.

As a long time money maker in the film biz....I shot in Piru every couple of years. I was there doing "What's Love Got to Do with It" when I stuck my head inside your buddies garage and was floored....there was some serious sh!t in there, including a 250 GTO long wheelbase. I made sure to pop my head inside the doors every job after that.

For what it is worth, I drive my ‘72 tii at least once a week, and when I drive it to get my hair cut, I street park it.  I drive it to buy salt for the water softener.    Lots more fun to drive than lots of other cars.

I’ll chime in… A decade ago I bought my first 02 because I graduated college and decided that I wanted to learn how to work on cars… I was and am handy and always saw the value of having skills… I changed the guibo at least a half dozen times for various reasons lol… I scrounged parts from junk yards, saved for fun bits, and researched here on the FAQ for more hours than I can count… It was an experience that I would never trade and in many ways, became a framework for the man I am today.

Times have changed… I am no longer the young one… The kids now are into the E30’s which is fine by me! It’s not my cup of tea but every time I see their little posse ripping around the cliffs near the beach where I live, I smile… They’re lowered, and loud, and crusty… JUST HOW I LIKE EM!!! And every time I’m out front wrenching on this new wreck 1600 of mine, they always slow down and honk… A nod of appreciation from the new generation to the old…

To me, 02’ing was about learning… It is about fixing and DRIVING a classic car!!! If I were a rich man, I’d own a bunch of cars!!! Not gonna lie… But have no doubt that I would drive them all… I also might choose to have a good shop do some of the work I no longer want to do as I have other things I like to spend time on… This was not always so lol…

Times change… Cars get more expensive… Labor gets more expensive… Parts get more expensive and harder to find. But when I see these kids ripping around in their E30’s, subarus, and nissans, I always smile… As much as I love the 02, I love the spirit of the builder more… Keep the kids interested and tinkering!

Long live the tinkerers!!!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
