Absolutely, never owned one, but rode my mates, loved the sound they made, I worked on a couple of 350’s they were painful because they used to foul their plugs all the time, you had to really thrash them to keep them clean… which is ok when you're 17😜

Absolute truth.  I kept a wrench and spare set of plugs with me.  But rarely had to use them, as I kept it wound!

Converted my compression tester to a leak down tester. Added a regulator and extra pressure gauge with a 0.060" orifice made by drilling a 1/16" hole through a solder-filled nipple between the gauges.

I was getting low compression and progressively higher oil consumption, so I wanted to see leak down numbers.

Confirmed that the leaks were worn/broken rings. All air escaped through the oil cap opening.

Grisly results: #1  16%, #2  26%, #3  58% and #4  54%. Did it three times to make sure the results were valid. Other than the high oil consumption, my car was running the best it's ever been!

143,250 miles on original block. Head gasket and top end parts (valves, guides, seals and rockers) are all new.

Looks like it's time for rings, bearings, and perhaps pistons... another entry on my never-ending tinker list.

Terrible news, I feel for you.  Could it be time for some emergency engine rejuvenating products like Sea Foam, Marvells Mystery Oil or similar?  Did you try 20W50?

I do use 20w-50 (Valvoline VR1) year-round. 

This happened rather suddenly, so I think it's a broken ring(s).

Time for exploratory surgery...too late for rejuvenating products.

Another visit. Final primer is done, just needs one last block and then color goes down. Eventually.
