What did you do to your 2002 today !

Lots and lots of cleaning of the donor block and associated parts.

Oil contacting surfaces and passages of the block are maybe 76.5% done.





Also ran taps through all the exterior bolt holes, experimented with wire brushing the exterior to remove the paint and it works pretty darn well, so that'll be my approach to stripping the block.


And also began stripping apart the pistons/rods to strip the corrosion off of those as well, and lightly polish mating surfaces.


And to top it off... painted the resonator of my Abarth exhaust with VHT flameproof paint. It looks so good now I feel obligated to paint everything else on the exhaust system. Maybe.... if I have time, but I don't think I do.

Looks great, but upon closer inspection, your steering wheel's not original.  Concours judges will dock you a couple points for that...

Just something simple.  

 

Replaced the aging batterey and it starts nice and nice and goes hard.  

 

Will attempt tomorrow to reverse flush flush the heater core.  Wish me luck that I don't open a hornets nest.

Firstly, I like your trunk light. You won't lose anything in the dark with that on. 

 

Secondly, what are you using for a replacement wheel well base?

I use rare earth hook magnets and a twin tube lamp, no excuses for not seeing things! I'm using a clean 320i well I bought on eBay. The 320i well is about 10-12 mm narrower in diameter than the 2002. I will be flaring the 320i well edge out for a tighter fit pre welding. I also have to swap the threaded post for the spare and move the "tow hook" to the right location.
