What did you do to your 2002 today !

Finished repairing the speedometer (at least I hope so - still not taking the car out on the salty roads).  It operated using a drill, but not certain of the accuracy yet.  While everything was apart I also painted the inside of the cluster housing with a fresh coat of titanium white and I replaced all of the bulbs.  It is 46 degrees out today.  Wish the roads were cleaner.

Replaced my trusty 40 DCOEs with a pair of 45 DCOEs that I rebuilt this winter. Got the carbs nicely balanced and took a few short test drives. Needs re-jetting, but I’m in the ballpark.

Sadly, my 13-year-old AFR system died in November, and having thoroughly tested it, I’ve confirmed it’s dead. Ordering a replacement this week so I can do a proper tuning job once it’s a bit warmer out.

Planning to relocate the alternator to make space for a large ITG filter that will cover the oversized velocity stacks. Bought a tii alternator bracket yesterday, and will source the remaining parts over the next week or so.

I have been avoiding the garage during the single-digit temps over Dec/Jan.  I had a lot of pent-up energy.  I spent the week refurbishing the heater box (on my dining room table) and installing it this weekend.  Also, got the pedal box completed and installed, and cleaned up the instrument cluster.

I had read about people complaining about installing the pedal box, but thankfully the motor is still out of the car.  I could not imagine the headache of doing it with the motor in place.  I was able to stand in the engine bay and get it in position.

One of the smartest things I did when I started this restoration was to buy a zinc/cad plating kit from Caswell.  There is nothing like the bling of shiny gold parts, even when nobody will ever see them, like in the heater box.  Or, the hood latch assembly below.

Got the car back from the shop on Thursday where a number of things were addressed.  Celebrated by installing some new sun visors and heading out on a 200+ mile drive including twisting through the Uwharrie National Forest in central NC along with a number of cars that included a 1600Ti, a 2000Tilux, and of course a number of 2002.

Now on to sorting out my sunroof and the rear vent window gaskets ahead of The Vintage.
