What did you do to your 2002 today !

Replaced the old 1 barrel Solex with a Weber 38/38.  I got the intake manifold from Patrick (Midnight Motorsport).  It was a good time to install a new radiator hose set from IE as well.  I got the modified early style air box from Peter at Coupe King.  Fit for the 38, and powdercoated (your choice of grey or black).

To my surprise, it practically tuned itself.  I started with each side mixture screw at 1 turn out, and both ended up at 3/4 out.  It idles perfectly, super throttle response.  

Just in time for the daily commute tomorrow!

I wiped down the old girl's original paint, vacuumed the interior, checked everything over, and took it to the annual McKee Gardens car show in Vero Beach, FL. I had been asked to represent BMW in an exhibit titled "The Best Cars From 40 Different Manufacturers." I was astonished at the number of people who, walking by the car, would say something like, "I used to have a 2002, and I really miss it! Why did we ever sell it??" It was a fun and worthwhile day.

Delivered seat cover kits from zoomzoom for E10 Recaros, matching rear seats and door panels to my upholsterer.   Color will change from dark blue to dark red.

 

Told specialist to start on modification of Eaton M62 supercharger to fit M10.  Delivered M10 engine so shop can use it to design clearances, pulley system, idlers etc.

 

Machine shop starting on custom fuel injected intake manifold for eventual Megasquirt conversion.

 

Chose fuel injectors and delivered to machine shop.  Still haven't decided on throttle body yet.

Today I went for a short drive up and down my street, testing out the electronic ignition. Seems to work well. After that, I attempted to address the tachometer... I found a post here about people using megasquirt with the stock tach and that one can simulate the high voltage flyback used to trigger a tach pulse by switching current through a relay coil using the ECM’s tach pulse. So I got a little creative and tore into a relay. I ripped out the switch, soldered a transistor and resistor across some of the connectors, and now I have a self-contained box that translates the speeduino tach signal to the stock gauge! I tested it and it works. (Plastic cover removed for pic)

The bottom mount is 2.25" wide, no spacers needed on the e21 bracket. The tii is a top pivot as opposed to this bottom pivot mount so the offset top tab wouldn't make it easy. ( first 2 pics)

 

BUT, there does seem to be a similar alt with the top mount offset to right side on which case it would work for tii, I think it's for the Toyota T100 but uses a serpentine belt. If you can get the belt pully then it should work. (3rd Pic )

 

Also, the Suzuki Samurai/ Geo Metro have 12 and 6 o'clock mounts but you'd need to add spacers as they are only about 1" wide. (4th Pic)

Started restuffing the back seat today. Originally used 2" foam for the seat and seatback last year and it was too puffy even with the cover pulled very tight. Did not go back in without a big fight. Felt too cushy too. I'm using 1" foam now with batting and hoping the seat will fit in nicely.

Compared the installed height of a few valve spring retainers I had on the shelf; this impacts valve spring pressure (can be adjusted via shims) and - in some instances - clearance between the retainer and the under-side of the rocker arm. -KB
