What did you do to your 2002 today !

Recommended Posts

Had my 76 over at Barney's this past weekend and replaced Stella's starter.  Barney installed a new water pump on one of his 02s and Ed continued to work on rust replacement and body prep on his 1967 BMW 20000cs Coupe. Good time with good friends and vintage BMWs!

Weather was so bad I looked for something to do in the garage.  Installed new drivers door window seal pn 51211847798 replacing the mostly gone original. Wasn't that hard, never had to curse, even once. Also ordered parts from Blunt to replace the chain tensioner. A project for next weekend. Hope it solves the clanky engine when it's cold in the morning.

He has the ultimate work space!!! I realize that I don't know Barney, but if I am ever in Texas, I am just dropping in with a six pack and stories...

Cheers to good friends!

I had the day off today.  It was so nice all I did was take the car out for a nice drive though some fun twisties.

I had a blast and the turbo pulled like a son of a gun.  So nice to have the extra power even if you don't need it all the time.

Knowing you have more power than Ray ... PRICELESS  :)

Replaced the starter with an SR441X, big difference in size, turn over speed and super quiet.  It doesn't seem to draw as much current. I had my car parked for a week, which means a longer turn over, and it didn't slow down after a good 10-12 second crank. I also put in my VDO oil pressure gauge and my fancy heim joint throttle arm, but nothing interesting to take a picture of.

Got it off eBay, some others on the board have gotten one from this provider with good results 3 years on.  I figured I would give it a try. If nothing else it would be a good core if it gives up the ghost. Seems well built.  I am not sure what is the difference between a "good" starter and a "cheap" starter.  This one has permanent rare earth magnets in it, so the field windings are not needed.  it is my understanding that when a traditional starter fails, it is the windings or the solenoid, so I have cut the failure points in half (theoretically).  It also has spade connectors so it makes it easier to put in the car without having to alter the wiring.  I have a MSD in it so I am not sure how it works with a point/resistor setup.

[Bad low res photo]

Finally got around to putting the clutch lever back in.

Was able to do it without actually removing the transmission. I did have to remove the guibo again, but as it turns out that's not as bad as some people make it out to be... Just pushed the trans back a couple inches and was able to slip in the lever.

Maybe now I'll actually finish the rest of the assembly... No more excuses!

Removed the speedometer from the 73 for rebuild/recalibration by North Hollywood Speedometer.  Also will send the non-operating clock from the 69 for rebuild and quartz movement upgrade.

Number stamped into the back of the 5/73 speedometer is W=1.28.

So I can still drive the car, I swapped in this speedometer from another cluster.

Date code stamped into this one is 3/75 with W=1.30 ratio.

A crafty guy here on the FAQ made me this 3-D printed clock plug with harness which will be used on the 69.
