  1. When I was first introduced to that part it was called an 'air dam' primarily because it kept air from going under the car and creating lift. It had an additional function to. The holes allowed air to flow through flexible hoses to the calipers for cooling.
  2. Porterfield R4-S Pretty much the only pad I will use in my cars. Work well for track days and spirited driving.
  3. Sounds like your battery is either discharged or one cell is toast. Have an auto parts shop check your battery.
  4. Pretty sure you need to adjust the stop plates on the slides.
  5. Turn the bracket on the transmission around. It should be oriented toward the rear of the car, away from the drain plug.
  6. Most WB o2 sensors also have provisions for standard o2 output. Hook it up and see what happens.
  7. I have one. Feel free to borrow it at your convenience. I am in south SJ. Mike
  8. When I had a carb on my engine, it had a spacer. It was between 3/16" and 1/4" thick. Can't remember exactly.
  9. I had M&N springs on my car back in the 80's. Very good for the street. Wish they were still available now.
  10. They are removable on a 32/36 but are supposed to be tight. Sometimes they wear and get loose. One arm has a fuel passage in it from the main fuel bowl. If they are loose, fuel can dribble down the main venturi. They can be tightened up using shims/knurling/peening.
  11. Check if your auxiliary venturies are loose in the bores. If so, fuel can bypass them and run down the side of the main venturi and not get vaporized.
  12. A buddy of mine used an E30 spare tire well on his '02. It does not fit perfect and requires a lot of welding and gentle persuasion to get it installed. In the end, he was able to get it to fit and got it welded in. Once it is textured and painted it will look and work fine. It is not perfect, but will function fine.
  13. from my article... I installed mine using an old coil mounting bracket with a couple of rubber air cleaner mounting studs that are rubber mounted. (13-71-1-272-495) There is a photo in the article that shows it installed. Your pump might be shaped different, so you might not be able to use the same mounting method, but the result will be the same. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/articles.html/technical-articles/engine-and-drivetrain/converting-to-318i-electronic-fuel-injection-r37/
  14. Add rubber isolators to the mounting. That will make it quiet. I did that with my EFI fuel pump and you cannot even hear it unless you are right next to it.
  15. Sounds like your idle jet is plugged. They are the ones on the side of the carb (behind the brass screw). The holes are really small and if they get plugged, your engine will not idle.
  16. I noticed in two of your photos that there appears to be a vacuum port on the manifold that is open to atmosphere. It is kind of hard to tell if that is the case, but if it is, that will be a vacuum leak and cause issues. For what it is worth, those carbs are very finicky with the idle jets. I had one on my early '72 and it plugged up and would not idle, but would run if you kept your foot in it.
  17. Please bring back the quick dropdown for the Forums. The new way you have to navigate to the Forums page, then select what you want. Before there was a dropdown where you could select what you want from whereever you were in the site and go there.
  18. You have too much tension on the choke spring. Lessen the tension and drive. Unfortunately this is an iterative type of thing. You might have to adjust it a few times to get it right.
  19. Yep, your timing changes when you change dwell. If the points were not set exactly the same as the old set, your dwell is off and therefore your timing is off.
  20. A dead ECU can make diagnosis very difficult. Glad you got it sorted.
  21. As far as your screeching, check your center bearing on the drive shaft. I have had one screech before, but not constantly. Mine was only at about 35 MPH. Just changing the preload on it might help.
  22. If your fuel pump is not working, your fuel pump relay is not working correctly. That relay not only turns on the fuel pump but also gives the ECU a tach signal. I think that your ECU is not getting a tach signal. It should be a black wire that is in the #1 position of the ECU connector.
