  1. Looks like someone removed the top portion of the fuel pump to prevent anyone from using it, then left it there to plug the hole in the head.

  3. Since the M42/44 was created as a fuel injected engine from the beginning, finding an intake manifold for carbs might be hard to come by. (I could be wrong) It sounds like it would be an interesting idea though.
  4. 1) vacuum hose to brake booster 2) plug 3) plug 4) vacuum advance on distributor 5) plug If you are trying to start the engine with all those vacuum leaks it probably will not. If it does start it will run really poorly. Plug them in the correct way and it should start.
  5. I used the original return line as the feed back in 1998 when I converted to EFI. No issues.
  6. Change the output seal and the shift shaft seal. Both can be done with the transmission in the car. While you are under there also check the attachment blocks for the shift tower. They can get oil soaked too and make shifting vague.
  7. I used the steel line as the pressure line and the nylon one for return. Has been this way for almost 20 years. some of the rubber has needed replacement but the hard lines (steel and nylon) are still in great shape. Like Marshall said, the rubber will need replacement periodically. I would also be suspect of a rubber line under the car which is not protected as it is susceptible to cuts/abrasion/etc. from debris on the road. Where the rubber is on those lines is protected from debris.
  8. Yep, turn it off and place it in the glove box. Perfect size and fit.
  9. If that piece of the linkage is popping off, your motor mounts and/or transmission mounts might be to blame. The linkage is pinned at the firewall and clips onto the carb. If the engine moves forward the clip can come off. When I ran that type of linkage I always pinched the fork over the little bar so it could not come loose.
  10. If you are stock and are attaching the fan/pulley/ring the correct bolt is M6 x 18 hex head. Should you be attaching just the pulley without the fan, they will be shorter. water pump
  11. I am pretty sure that there is a freeze plug that is the correct size for that hole. Very easy and inexpensive solution.
  12. It sounds to me like you have a constant power source where a switched one should be. Follow the wiring diagram closely and you will find it.
  13. IIRC it was Holly 5200, but there may be some kind of additional piece to the model number.
  14. I searched my stash and found a 320 alternator. No bail, sorry.
  15. There should be an indent on the connector for the bail to sit in. To answer your question, it will only go on one side of the connector. I will look in my stash. I do have an old alternator, but am unsure if it still has the bail on it or not. if it does, it is yours.
  16. There is supposed to be a wire bail that is attached to the alternator to keep the connector in place. Looks like it is missing from yours.
  17. You might be able to test the 'pertronix' unit with a heat gun. Get it hot and see if the engine runs/dies. My guess is that the IE pertronix died or is dying.
  18. It kind of sounds like piston slap. That also explains why it goes away when warm.
  19. Blocked/plugged idle jet will cause those symptoms. Do you have an electric idle jet by chance? If so and it lost power, the engine would die.
  20. I did this for my door lock control wiring, but you can do the same for speaker wiring. Make sure that the holes are not lined up with each other vertically or the wires will break over time. If they are at different heights they twist instead of bend. The blue is just sheathing with grommets on each end. Been working well for several years.
  21. This wiring diagram might help a bit...
  22. There used to be (maybe it is still available) a Mercedes part that can be used to fix that. Do a forum search for window regulator and you should find it. There were some threads on it a bunch of years ago.
