I did this about 40 years ago to my 69 1600      It had a 2.2 lt with twin 45 dcoes, 320 big bearing cam   10.3 hi comp pistons  full 2 inch exhaust with a header( can't remember the make )   5 speed and LSD    I took some old steel wheels and had them widened to 7 and 8 frt and rear   Scheel seats    car was crazy quick and had all the suspension goodies that were available back then     Spent a winter in the basement of the shop that I worked at doing the body     What we do when we were young      I think I was going for a 320i Turbo Junior race car look           My ex drove it and parked it on the street one night and a large truck caught the edge of the flare and literally peeled it all back like a can opener       After that , ended up bringing the body back to complete original           Bit it was fun

Thanks, Rick

10 years ago I bought my first one and had no clue about anything. I was 18 and I wanted a 2002 but couldn't afford a nice one so I bought a 74 w/ a blown motor and spent a summer w my best friend learning how to pull a motor and drop another in, learn to tune a carb, set timing etc. the very basics. The amount of work that took me a summer then takes me a week now. I had few tools, a very slight knowledge, and little money. Usually a pretty bad combo.

me very curious what I am thinking

I finished getting it running well and installed new tires a day before I had to be back in SLO for first day of sophomore year, having driven it a total of 40 miles.

Next day I loaded the thing to the brim with all my junk and drove 300 miles from SD to SLO. The car never missed a beat and earned my respect that day. I enjoyed it for most of college and regret selling it. I couldn't afford it as a college kid. I believe it went to a guy in Pennsylvania.

A few shots in SLO. This one started it all for me and is key in very fond memories

Great detail. Only thing I would change is remove those three SUV's from the road on the right side of the photo. Those rigs should have been parked out of site.  Thanks for sharing.

Hey now! I'm that guy in Pennsylvania!

Rob @ 2002 Haus went through it for me, did some fixes and when it got out to PA it was a great weekend cruiser - even though it burned a bit of oil.

I had big plans for it but ended up selling it in early 2015 to a guy near Philly.  A few months later used the funds for down payment on a cabin in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Wish I had those seats to put in the 73 I picked up recently!

Got an envelope full of various photos among the stacks of records. Most are various stages of the repaint and other mechanical bits. But had a laugh from this one for what was written on the back.

Based on some of the other photos its in Texas 1992.
