OK, I tried to count ‘em but gave up -- so I looked it up… ?  There’s thirteen ‘02s (+ 2 BMW 2800s) in that great Green Hell shot from 50 years ago.

Looks like the Capri RS dominated - back when Neerpach was still with them (obvs pre- M). GS Tuning, Koepchen, and Faltz-Alpina repped by taking 2-3-4 in class.

Funny what memories old photos can evoke: at about 4:30 into this video the narrator mentions Klaus Ludwig as one of the principal racing drivers of the 02.  By chance (maybe our girlfriends were girlfriends?) I spent a day skiing and dining with him in ‘81 in St Moritz.  I was there by sheer coincidence, playing above my weight class and my pay grade in that crowd, but in those days had skis would travel, and he was a welcome, down-to-earth boon companion.  He was winning in Capris at the time.  A month after that was my ride in Takao Shigeta’s Chamonix tii over the Alps, birthing my conviction that I should own one someday….
