I've got a 73 with the Korman Stage 2 engine (292 cam + Dual Weber 40s) and Stahl header that was built during restoration by a previous owner in the late 90's.
The dude I bought the car from had a smallish glass pack in the middle of the system and a straight pipe out the back, not sure of the diameter of the pipes. It was insanely loud.
Before I got a chance to figure out a replacement for it 2 of the welds cracked and I got a local exhaust shop put a quick fix on there that did quiet it down some but is still very loud and drones badly on the highway. He used a 30 inch glass pack in the front and some 6 inch round muffler in the back. Not sure what size pipes, or of the brands of the mufflers.
I reckon the engine+header setup is not conducive to a quiet exhaust note? Or its just the parts that were on there aren't doing a great job?
I'm far less educated on these matters than I likely should be and am looking for some pointers on setting up a decently mellow exhaust for the car if possible.
Sourcing stock front and rear mufflers is looking like nearly the cost of some of the stainless systems out there. Whereas the IE stainless and TEP setups are slightly more than the cost of the stock rear muffler but not sure how they would workout. Some of the more custom, Magnaflow, Flowmaster routes mentioned here and in other threads are similar to what are currently on the car.
Any input/info mucho appreciated.
