Apropos of which, while I have named my car Fjord, I am considering a name change.  This car was owned by a father and then his son in LA before being sold to Wheeler Dealers for a refresh in 2015. Their refresh did not dive deep enough, however to find this.  Ah, remember the 70s, anyone?  If not, this may be why.

Can I get a show of hands for renaming Fjord?  Maybe “Ziggy?”

First drive off the island...

To Taiping, an early tin mining town about 2 hrs south of here.

Good acceleration, no overheating or running-on... Quite happy with that. Still gotta improve hot start...

Took the backroad into town today, stopped at the produce market then looped back home via the highway.

Got my first 2 thumbs up of approval, couple of winos but I'll still take it?

Installed tires that came with the car have to go, good excuse to mount my alloy wheels

My odometer stopped working, eight years and 31,168 miles after I repaired it.  I had followed the tutorial in the Articles section and it worked quite well, up until a couple of days ago.  This time, all I did was tap the shaft back in again, figuring the little ridge I had made on the shaft would dig into a new spot on the plastic gear.

A couple of years ago, I learned not to use compressed air to dust-off the cluster, since it also blows dust in.

I cleaned the dust off of the faces and lenses while it was apart.  That fix will make me smile for a while.

Hi everyone!
I’ve been trying to get back in the garage since the end of July but just couldn’t find the time.
So I took advantage of the Labor Day holiday, to get back out there and get the rear brakes done.

I changed both Rear brake hoses, both wheel cylinders, shoes, and drums.

The system hasn’t had brake fluid in it since before I got the car 3 years ago, so I don’t know the condition of the master cylinder.  Without filling the system, is there any other way of knowing if the master cylinder is good?
Thanks,

Frank

20 hours over the last 4 days to swap out an injection pump.

Why so long?  There's a reason BMW makes special tools.  If I had the special puller for the toothed pulley I wouldn't have had to remove the radiator to use a generic puller.   And the grill to access the puller.  And drain the cooling system. Etc.  Etc.  Etc.

Anyway, the newly installed pump is calibrated to 500+ PSI injectors.  We'll see how it performs.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
