let’s try not to get our two cars too close together. Yours is light years nicer than mine and it might get jealous. 😁

I got up early this morning and decided it was time to put the new Tii engine and transmission into place. The recommendations from the forum were invaluable. Mostly using pilot screws to bring the subframe up to the chassis. Not sure if it would have worked without them. Now it’s on to the wiring of the engine compartment putting on the new fuel lines and getting the dizzy set up correctly. A lift made the job easy.

Bought an oil drain plug at O'Reilly's today and it came with what appears, at least to me, to be a new type of crush washer:  a combination of thin metal and crushable hard fabric material.  During tightening, it felt like it crushes and seats better than the traditional Al washers.  No leaks after 6 hours...

Got the 5 speed swap mostly done. Took it for a test drive and it shifts great for an unknown box. I need to get the exhaust looked at (downpipe wouldn’t clear the bracket without some…massaging).

Gotta wire up the SpeedHut GPS speedometer, too.

Started planning the battery under the back seat. I like the dimensions of the 51R AGM (although I think this one is getting returned as it was weeping a little from just being at an angle for a couple hours)

I wrapped it in cardboard so that I can return it and after trying to use my inspection camera to see what the underside of the seat was looking like clearance-wise, it dawned on me that the old seat cover and horsehair is coming out anyway, so... (yuck!)

I think I'm going to cut the one strap and run another piece of spring steel up through a higher spring coil. and maybe tack the cut strap to it.

@OldRoller two Odyssey PC925s was a bit too pricey for me. Did you have any clearance problems with the back seat?)

Pulled the 50mm bolt-on stacks with uni-filters from the Webers and installed the EuroCarb 26mm slide-in stacks with SS filters. Also got the Opel Kadett wheels glass bead blasted and will send them off for powder coating soon.

A grease gun works well for pushing out stuck pistons.  I had to do that with mine.  The threads on the gun's hose fit the bleeder holes  [edit- they fit the incoming supply line holes, not the bleeders].  The nice thing about using grease is that they don't POP when they come out, like they do with air.  Then you'll need to clean the rust out of the bores.  In mine, the rust was all in the last 1/4", outside of the seal.

Thanks for the advice, this worked a treat! I went and bought a sturdy old grease gun from an old timer on Gumtree and had all eight pistons out that night. I ended up having to buy an M10x1 grease nipple to thread into the brake line hole and connect the gun to that, though; it seems like  grease guns in Australia tend to use 1/8" BSPT fittings.

Spent an evening cleaning up the bores and polishing the pistons, now it's just cleaning the grease out, primer and paint, seal kit, and we're in business.

No issues with clearance with stock seat, plenty of room. I did make a plastic cover over both batteries as a precaution. in hindsight, one PC925 would have been sufficient. Adequate juice.

Good to know! Maybe I'll get one of them instead. I'm a little worried about the lower CCA for winter and if I add AC along with the ECU and EFI.

The batteries in the 76 were calc'd to handle any increased future loads, hence the two that were used. On a stock car with nominal electrical requirements, one PC925 is sufficient. If additional equipment is added (ecu, fuel pump, ac etc) the amp loads will need to be calc'd to ensure adequate current supply. Alternator output should also be considered.

It is better to have more available current supply than too little, especially considering the voltage sensitivity of some components

in an upgraded system.

I have 2 Braille AGM 2015 batteries I purchased to go in the rear seat space I won't be using if you are interested.

now time for the headliner. Anyone know where to get the plastic grommets that the headliner supports/bars go into? All mine broke into a million pieces.
