  1. Congrats on getting your new to you ‘02 (and leaving the lurker status in the dust)! This forum is about the best you’ll find, with an unbelievable amount of passion, knowledge, and kindness! Best of luck, mitchell
  2. Congrats! The old gal still looks showroom new!
  3. A car in college? You were the lucky one! I had a Schwin bicycle and a pair of Nike running shoes. 🙂 Cars are gonna be cars and break down at the worst times. And, most timing belts/chains don't last forever. I've had two go out on me over the years: The first was in a '74 Mercury Capri and the second was in a 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback Si - both great cars that kept me safe on the roads for years after I fixed 'em. Sorry to hear that your Subaru experience was less than ideal.
  4. Bummer about your result but when inquiring on a product from their catalog last week I emailed Andrew, in tech support and heard back relatively quickly. Good luck!
  5. Freude am Fahren I'm a bit late to the party though agree that the tii seller is slightly delusional with his asking price and feel that in the as is, not running state, that car may be worth somewhere in the $6-8K range. And, after reading all of the comments I thought I'd offer some additional thoughts. Firstly, the collective experience, knowledge, and expertise on this board is awe-inspiring. Secondly, it's become quite rare that a scenario like yours hasn't previously been discussed because many of us have faced similar scenarios. And perhaps made less than thoughtful decisions. And, as a result, found our wallets a bit lighter, our knuckles a bit bloodier, and our ability to swear even more impressive. Personally, the therapeutic value I've gained from owning and wrenching with my cars is priceless and even when I know I've made mistakes, it's comforting to know that the FAQ will be there for me with more knowledge than the original '02 designers and engineers, more transparency than the clearest pane of glass, and more comedic relief than Shane Gillis, Dave Chapelle, and Sam Morril combined! Good luck with your decision!
  6. It would be helpful if you discussed mileage on them and added some pics. Thanks
  7. Nice set though I can see a bit of color variation which could be your lighting. Perhaps a few side by side shots taken outside?
  8. What a great story and the car looks stunning, especially with the BWA Sportstars and Alfa center caps! let me know if you ever come across another set of those caps haha. best, Mitch
  9. that technology is alive and well (and F'n brilliant) in my 2009 manual tranny Impreza hatch!
  10. haha it was starting to feel like the my Subaru Impreza forum.
  11. clearly you've never owned a subaru, Mr. Bert 😉
  12. What he said! But if I’m actually in my ‘02 and the window Is down, I offer a thumbs up (in addition to the high beam flash). Lastly, if I’m somehow at Home Depot in my bimmer, I smack my forehead and realize I really needed my Subaru to haul the lumber home!
  13. Well done! I was just gathering some inertia to take on such a mindless project. My current set reeks of exhaust but I’m hopeful that once I rip off the old, original vinyl, some of that smell flees the scene. Btw hopefully Pamela got to the scene in time!
  14. Love hearing about the '02 scene in and around B-ham! My girlfriend and I visit a few times a year and are retiring there in a couple of years! Beautiful Inka and Chamonix '02's... and Paul, that's a stunning Bauer! looks like you got the primo spot on the Ferry - usually where we leave our bikes when we're visiting friends on Orcas Island!
  15. Lucky, I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Boyd's but glad to hear about your mad Macgyver skills! It's hard to believe so many things went awry in such a short period of time! and, with regard to Dave Lumbra, my '72's M10 was rebuilt by him a few years before I bought it in Veneta (15 years ago) and it still runs like a champ! best, Mitch
  16. Welcome to the FAQ! The skinny is that Mike (O'hara) became ill or passed away but his partner, Craig was running the biz and is/was a fantastic wrencher. Sadly, Mike's sister took over the shop (April 2022), kicked Craig out, and liquidated the entire shop including parts, tools...you name it! I've heard good things about Boyd Motor Werks and Pacific Motorsport - both in Portland. best, Mitch
  17. Hi Steve, I've been coming to this site since I bought my first '02 in 2010. It's been an invaluable source of knowledge and inspiration over the years and honestly, I haven't noticed the shift as you've described. In fact, for me, I'm on the site more than ever just to read the discussion board and check out the classifieds. I have noticed at times that people pose their questions on the FAQ and on FB and theorize that some may feel that posting on multiple sites is a way of ensuring their question is answered swiftly. Personally, I've never had a question go un-answered and in fact there are usually multiple answers and/or comments to anything I post. I do agree that we're a smaller community and for some it takes a bit of time to build the confidence necessary to pose a question. And, there have been times when a question that has been posed multiple times in the past receives the response, "this has been addressed multiple times previously, please use the search function" which can turn some users against this site. I have noticed that cost for parts have reached the stratosphere over the years and marketplace might be the go-to venue for many. Still, the FAQ will always be my virtual comfort food!
  18. that's a great dea! and I'd love to have that part though I'm in Portland so shipping would be involved. best of luck with the sale! Mitch
  19. Congrats on the new '02 and good luck with the resto/rehab. Looks like a fairly solid car to start with and with a wonderfully resourceful membership here on the FAQ, you're off to a good start! Great shot of Crown Point btw!
  20. You might try posting in the parts wanted section as I'm always amazed at the parts people have in their stashes! good luck!
  21. I’ll take the lights if still available. thanks, mitch
  22. Hi Sherman, gray would be perfect! thanks, Mitch
  23. Hello, I purchased a new set of Hella H4 lamps/bulbs from an FAQ'er that did not come with the dust boots and I'm wondering if anyone has a pair lying around. thanks, Mitch
  24. How ‘bout $10? Where do you want it shipped to?
