my Friggin anniversary accident. Son of a...

Recommended Posts

Almost exactly one year to the date, just one week off, i got whacked again in my 02 by a guy speeding down a median to cut through bumper to bumper traffic.

oh boy... i hope insurance handles this one properly... (meaning they find him at fault).

My buddy and i are OK.

The steering is really loose now. i had to drive home holding the door shut.

I am starting to feel like this car is cursed. I wish it was my other car that got whacked. not poor Betty....

I have been driving for almost 20 years and suffered more accidents in the past year then i have in my whole life.

Depending on insurance, I may be on the hunt for a VGC driver's door. possibly a nice Malaga hood.. and hopefully the body shop can handle the rest.

Give me a shout if you are in LA and have the parts (ken? haha) ...And i will be driving in the bay area next month... if anybody has a CHEAP/GOOD door to donate...

Again, all this depends on what insurance says.

I already called the body shop i used last year. They have the paint left over and ready to go!

And she has been running nearly perfect too...

time for a beer.

oh josh, that is so unfair. i'm sure everyone flinches when they see that photo. your body man did a great job the last time. i hope you don't loose patience with this car. with all you've done with it you'd be hard pressed to replace it. hang in there. it still looks good. hope you get duly compensated for your inconvenience and time.

Oh man....I'm sorry to hear...this really pisses me off. I live in LA, too and EVERY FREAKIN DAY I watch people drive straight through red lights (not yellow for a while, I mean completely red) and other stupid stuff. It's amazing more bad things don't happen.. I lost my favorite vehicle ever (74 Land Cruiser FJ40) to a stupid 20 year old kid in a brand new Porsche going double the speed limit... Sorry, this is obviously a sore spot for me...best of luck getting her back on the road.

That sucks to say the least, glad everyone is OK.

I hate driving my tii or E3 in LA traffic, every time I'm in LA, I see drivers texting, on the cell phone, etc.. and they are clueless on what is going on around them. My former 02 was totaled on the 10 freeway by a driver who rear ended me when traffic came to a stop. If you want to own older BMW, the perfect daily driver for LA traffic has to be a big bumper E30 or E28 eta car. I do admit that diving board bumpers have their advantages in a congested urban environment.

Thanks for all the kind words, encouragement, and shared thoughts on frustrating LA drivers....

Yes, i am totally upset but for some reason, i looked at the car and thought, 'last time was worse, she can be fixed'...

my biggest concern right now-

--is who is going to pay for it and

--I'm most upset that i have to live without her while she undergoes surgery.

This is going to end up being the worlds most expensive 2002.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
