  1. Anders I feel the same pain brother I would probably try to fine a documented a4 engine and keep the stock one for a resale, but on the other hand it's a valuable bit of early Alpina work just the way it is, but then again the 4 red stacks at full song would be the next best thing to sex! But on the other hand the car more than stands for it's self as is. I JUST DON"T KNOW i'm so confused, but in a good way
  2. When it shuts down does it sputter to a stop (probably fuel) or is it like someone just turned the key off (probably electrical)
  3. Tom my 75 came to me with 2 holes in the floor boards from a misadventure with a 2 post lift so if it's just a matter of adding 4 doublers if heavy enough and with a large enough foot print i say good idea at this point
  4. So, the only open question is whether the very late Euro 1500-1600 still used the Larry trans or went with the Curly trans? I suggest they stayed with Larry style as the 2002- Euro 320i production overlapped by many months and everyone keep the appropriate trans, maybe one of our Euro brothers has a example of a very late 15-1600 and could let us know.
  5. I take it the 2 brackets in the trunk on the wheel wells are to hold the targa roof when it's removed.
  6. Maybe you could wire tie the two brake lines together and miss the bold altogether
  7. If you mean the pressure to the injectors it will jump up and down it's a swash plate piston pump and should not run at a steady pressure to the injectors instead it should rise and fall as it builds pressure to the point the injectors open.
  8. While the engine parts are sexy the suspension complete from Alpina more than carry's it half of the load and I dare say would be harder to duplicate today with their negative camber struts going for more than 5 grand a set and who knows what the disk set up would get if you could find one and when was last time a 75% LSD came on the market, Boy I'd give this car a home in a minute but my Lotto ticket seems to be defective
  9. I've not seen all the 1600-2002 variants but I've never seen 1 with the 242 tranny the wasn't added as a replacement, and very few of those, because if your going to change all the clutch gear why not go with a 5 speed as most did.
  10. I've been told long neck and short neck trailing arms are not interchangeable, they have a different width between the trailing arm mounting points.
  11. Looks great, I love the Velcro idea, it seems like the little screws never want to line up right after you lift that side for tank maintenance or what ever.
  12. The VDO aux gauges I've seen the bezel is crimped over the glass and can't be removed with out damaging the gauge in a manor that will show, Maybe you could remove the light bulb and use some keyboard cleaner (dry compressed gas) to try to blow as much dust as you can off the face I know this is not cleaning it but might be your only chance.
  13. I can't help with the size and shape of the new cut outs as I just filled the holes but the brackets bolt to the lower frame rail like in your second picture, cut the 5 mph bracket along the seam on the engine side you can see on the inside of your first picture with a cut off wheel then slice it down the middle and remove it to gain access to the inter flange. When you plug the holes from the big bumper you'll need to be VERY careful with the heat as that area of the nose has no support and will warp if you look at it funny, so just tack welds with plenty of cool down time between and go slow with the grinder and you'll get a real nice job.
  14. Well I think if it was me I'd pull the head myself and see what's going on and if the piston is still usable then shop for a rebuilder. the head is not to tough to get on or off at home.
  15. This is one of the things that one should remember how to install, IE start on the left side with the bar facing right and so on and so forth, but no one does so just flop down on the driveway and start it will go in..
  16. Yes you can get the screws in after the windshield but it's a bitch I had a small off set ratcheting screwdriver that helped quite a bit if I was to do it again I might take Steve's approach and leave them out.
  17. The very 1st 72 tii's came to the US with the 3.45:1's but they went to the 3.64:1's before long and stayed with it through the 74's, probably way less the 1/3 of the 72's came with the 3.45:1 rear
  18. Are you filling the 2 little holes at the junction of the head and upper and lower covers meet with rtv? this is one of the keys to prevent leaks
  19. Yes you would think it would smoke and use oil, but maybe with fresh seals it might not for a while, I only put it out there as a possibility but the M-10 aren't really know to wear valve guides to the point of cocking.
  20. My first 2002 a very early 72 was configured just like this with the 12 fuse electrical system, I have always thought that BMW's reputation for using up old stock on newer models was cemented with this ragged change over.
  21. Yes for some unknown reason the clutch circuit gets a lot more crap build up than the brake side I've never figured it out but have seen it many many times.
