Will Bilstien HD & IE stage 1 springs help with Tire rub?

I have bilstein rear shocks, but do not know if strut inserts and front springs are OEM.

Tires rub on fast corners, bumps. Other than that the suspension is stiff but good for everyday drives.

Im thinking of buying B6 Bilstien strut inserts + IE stage 1 springs.

Im thinking the stage 2 springs would be too stiff for street

Would like to hear thoughts, comments or advice.

195/75-15 is part of the problem. Consensus tire size among the 02 crowd for a 15" wheel is a 195/50-15 or 195/55-15. The other potential part of your rubbing problem is the wheel offset.  We need to know your wheel specs. Spend some time in this thread to learn more.

My wheels are Rota RB 5x7

Offset = 30

I had to install 1/4" spacers to get the wheel to fit over the hubs...even though the sales guy said they install these on 2002's all the time.

so I guess you are all saying that new springs/struts (non-racing) will not help if the tire is flush with the outer edge of the lip of the fender, and I should either:

1- use 14' wheels/tires

2- find a 15" wheel with a smaller offset that will bring the tires inboard

Those 1/4” spacers (1/4” = 6.4mm) convert your 30mm offset to 23.6mm. But what was hitting that you needed the spacers? Are your rims’ center bores possibly too small for an ‘02? An ‘02 requires a center bore of at least 57.1mm.

Steve

    BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

    Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

    In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
