Corroded Hose Fitting

I have this part on my Tii with some pretty good corrosion.  During my engine rebuild I vapor honed a number of parts which really revealed some good pitting where 2 water hoses attach.  Should I fill the pits or will crimping the hoses down prevent any leaking.

I would try filling the pitting with JB weld high heat epoxy, its supposed to be good up to 450*f.

Better replacement would be nice. Def fill & file. Just clamping badly pitted fittings - never worked for me for a long.

Replace it, the outer side could be filled but the inner one looks to have more general wasting and looks like the whole thing is weak, JMO.

You can fill the pits using the Aluminum "welding rod" product and a propane torch.

 

HF or just duck duck it.

 

Over fill and file back......

In light of a new part costing $220, I will try the other fixes first!  Not a horrible part to get to should it not work.

My part had pitting as well. Filled with JB weld, sanded and light coat of Alumablast spray paint and all good.

Might try a WTB ad in the classifieds just to see if you can find a solid used one.

Would try to repair but agree that one side looks borderline in pic.

Coincidentally, I just got one repaired by a local TIG welder....not pretty but reliable (the job....and the welder)....

 

He cuts-off all the corroded bits and then welds-on replacement hose joints.

 

Cost was ~USD35 including rich foreigner premium and Chinese New Year lucky number bonus.

I will freely admit to filling pits like that with black RTV and sticking the hose on.

 

It works.  The RTV seals up the holes just fine.

 

JB Weld should be fine, too, altho technically, the iron in it

(yes, there IS iron in it, although WHY is entirely due to markettationallizing)

will accelerate corrosion of the aluminum.

So, better would be a thick 2- part epoxy- the kind you knead 

together, if it's thin enough to pack into the holes.  Or

the 'gel' squirty kind.
