  1. What's your voltage at the pump while running? The wiring to the pump as new is insufficient, so an old crusty, corroded wire may not provide enough power..., 10 ga. (US) Will be best.
  2. Your restoration is both inspirational and aspirational.
  3. I just bought the full set at W&N when they had their 30% sale. About $700 for the glass, about $750 to ship plus duty $85. Was still less than the dealer ($2100??) with my discount, and BMW doesn't have all of them. Shipped UPS, and was advised to open the boxes to check for damage when the driver was there, otherwise W&N would not process a claim for damage.
  4. I interpret that as in today's world manufacturers publish xxx grams per yyy CO2, which didn't exist in 1976. Tuning specs, however were for SMOG compliance. I don't recall those specs, but somewhere in my lizard brain says<2%, and low HC.When I had to smog my car I tuned it to 1% at idle and 1500 rpm(?) and it would pass the tailpipe. Of course it would barely run, then I would have to then tune it to run well. I found that using race gas was key as it doesn't have Ethanol. California don't ya know. "Sometimes" all they need is "a number to put in a box on a form". Perhaps other listers here in the EU can shed some light on the subject.
  5. They're secretly hiding as 7/16" wrenches
  6. All it needs is everything. If it were Ceylon or Turkis with a sunroof I'd be in. Wait, I already have two projects...
  7. Depends on whether it's thing #1 or thing #2..... Looks to me like an aftermarket voltage regulator perhaps like the adjustable ones sold in the VW arena.
  8. Or you can get someone to loan you one to scan.....
  9. Acceleration is inversely proportional to A/C usage, don't you know.
  10. If the EXV is the same as an E30 I have a few NOS ones....
  11. And another thing, keep it R12 as 134a is not a sufficient refrigerant. Also, check your valve to make sure it's not clogged with debris and functions properly
  12. On the early cars there was a huge outcry about the poor A/C systems right from the get go, and it wasn't just the fan. The BMWCCA Roundel magazine probably had a article on, or perhaps Mike remembers it. BMWs solution was to add a vent cover for the center that directed the air straight back rather than up and back. I installed one on my father's 350i, and it looked cheesy, but worked, sort of. Knowing what I now know about A/C systems, I think it was undersized as a system to interior cabin volume vs. temperature. I hope your interior isn't black!
  13. Not to be cranky, but I'd still like to know if anyone has actually, personally seen that nut remove itself from an original engine or quality builder.
  14. There were machinations about the nuts coming off in discussions on the E30M3 gruppe a few years ago. VAC made a new shaft for the rotor that had a reverse thread nut to eliminate the possibility of the nut backing off. But in all my years I've yet to know anyone having a properly torqued nut come off. Anyone here know of one?
  15. What do your plugs look like? One or more fouled? I've found this to be a chronic problem....
  16. Well, "some say" a Turbo, which has the stock front and rear spoilers drives just fine with no float on the highway at 135, though 110 is a better sweet spot. The wind noise is horrendous, so use your stereo accordingly.
  17. Contact this company: Rebuild & Return (R&R) POWERBRAKEEXCHANGE.MYSHOPIFY.COM Remanufactured Brake Units I have used them several times rebuilding T-51s, excellent service. Yours probably needs a rebuild.... To be safe. Brakes are the most important thing NOT to cheap out on.
  18. I want to thank @halboyles for re-making the timing chain tool. I've always wanted (40 years)one of these and the quality exceeds expectations. Now I don't have to fart around with turning the fan belt when I adjust valves and such. Thanks! Ted
  19. I have two thoughts on this subject. First, give the shop his due for doing what probably amounted to hours of research, and just purchase the alternator from him. Don't be a cheepskate! That said, the 2002's problem ISN'T the alternator, the amperage is sufficient to run the car, auxillary lights, stereo etc. Okay, if you have 4 Super Oscars with 100 watt bulbs, it might not. But I digress.... It's your 50 year old, nasty, corroded, high restance wiring harness. Higher amperage into that system is not going to push the electrons any better than its capacity to receive them.
  20. Yes. You can call me if you'd like. I'm in your time zone until Wednesday Ted
  21. That's the casting number. The temperature is lightly stamped on the housing. Shown are an 80&71 degree units.
