First, I’ve been going through boxes of old slides with my mom and dad @tisabmw this weekend. And, we found the oldest known pictures of their 2002tii. The slides say they were developed in April ‘74, but knowing my dad, these could very well have been taken very soon after they bought the car new in February ‘72. In the very least they are the oldest pictures we we’ve found of the car so far.

The Shelby Cal500 wheels, Anco bumper bars and Ansa Sport exhaust were already on the car at the dealer. Please bear with me as I took photos of the slides With my iPhone over a white background.

The car still resides in that same garage today. Oh, and I wasn’t born till Nov. ‘74.

what a great thread, as lots of you noted it gave me a chance to go back through my old photos, actual pieces of hard copy film paper, and have a few laughes, tears and gasps. So long story short, here are a few pics of my first love, 1976 BMW 2002, Chamonix, with blue whale interior, 4 speed and sunroof, bought new off the show room floor in May of 1976 at AutoHaus back East, here in Cohassett MA. If I recall correctly it was $7,200. It was a beauty. Thanks Dad. So, the Polaroid shot was probably 77 or 78, washed up in front of our house.  The next two are from 79, Ithaca College days, that was our off campus house which we shared with a bunch of guys, and then the next was a drive through the hills of Ithaca NY with Bonging Bob at the wheel. It is amazing to think that I drove that thing from Boston to Ithaca for 4 years in all sorts of crazy upstate weather, fully loaded, ( the car ) I took it to the US Grand prix at Watkins Glenn for the last 4 years that it was held there, and slept in the car more than once at the races. But the same old story, I left it in my poarents driveway for a few too many years ands came home one day to find out that they sold it. Man, I wish I had that one back. Fast forward forty years or so and my wife and I bought our 72 and it feels just like it back in the day.  I even have the same liscence plate number that I did on my original one. There you go.

Wolfrace have a different look to them. Not related to the US made Ansen/Shelby Cal500s.

And, my parent’s Slot Mags were terribly out of round, which is why they bought the Cromodora CD40 “Dino” wheels in ‘78.

Still, I’ve often thought of picking up a set of Cal500s to use on the car for shows and photo opps.

I’d also like to find another four Ti/Tii steel wheels, but only if they’re the correct date code of 8/71 like the original spare. To me, since we have never known the car with steel wheels, I’d only bother with them if they match the original spare.

Amazonasgrun/Tan  2002 (#4225509) purchased right off the showroom floor at Williams VW/BMW/Porsche/Mercedes Benz in Lansing, Michigan in February, 1974 - right after a trip to Germany.  Sunroof, Michelin XAS tires, rustproofing and delivery charges brought the price up to about $4300 as I recall.

Note the trapezoidal mirror and mudflaps. I had yet to purchase a radio at the time this picture was taken.

This car currently lives in Newport, Rhode Island.

That’s Jay Kehoe’s Inka tii with Alpina A4S behind my car, I often wonder what happened to him and hope he’s well, we had some good times.

Jay’s still in Montana but sold the Tii to Rob Ferrero who’s in the north bay and brings out to Monterey and other events.

Here's my tii in February 2, 2002 at the Texas 2002 Fest in Brenham, Texas (below).  It had recently been retired from daily driver duty, after I had restored it in 1997.  I bought it in 1995 for $2002 dollars.  The guy had two - an Inka tii clone and a Polaris tii.  I remember thinking how obnoxiously orange the Inka was.  Today, my tii is still mechanically sorted (more or less) and rocking 5 spoke Revolutions, but in need of another repaint and some interior work.

Looking through the pics I spotted 02Les's touring at the same show, and I think that's Les standing by it.

Sorry if this does not belong here - does anyone recognize this artist? It is a classy 2002 shot with lots of humor and I would love to get one for my office.  I took the picture while dining at a restaurant in Anaheim California.  The sign may be a clue - "no stopping any time"?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
