The malaga engine looks further back to me, and the rear air filter housing on the colorado car seems to be physically different...

I think you are right.

Tommy's observations were basically the same as mine. The airbox seemed "chubbier" and then I noticed that the distance between the mounting brackets on the box itself were closer together and that the area just fore of the rear bracket looked odd.

Suspicions confirmed: the center section was sectioned and rewelded together. My guess would be that it was done to clear the standard brake booster. Otherwise it doesn’t make much sense.

not sure how to remedy this YET.

For sure if your tii engine is stock-ish, that airbox really is tuned for the engine.  Changing the volume of that thing could have a noticeable effect on engine performance.

Easiest best answer might be that hot-rod engine on the stand...  Or manual brakes.  And your spare airbox.

Great to see you again, Ryan.  I miss the IG tii peel-out videos.

I know how you feel - I'm starting to line up bigger projects, because there is time to be used - preferably constructively.  I'll probably learn how to adjust valves next.

I agree w/the other posters re the airbox.  Looks like there wasn't enough measuring done before cutting.

Can't find the Roudel article where they tried different tii intake arrangements.  I can only find this little clip of the results.  It was a cool article - thought I had the whole thing.

Ryan, what's the VIN of the motor?  Keep the updates coming, it's good quarantine therapy.  I just pulled my tii out of winter hibernation yesterday and I need to pull the heater box. I'm dreading it, one of the suckiest jobs of 02 ownership, especially when you are 6'3".

Thank you Anders! Flying is very fun and rewarding.

Staying off topic... Ryan, what do you fly, if I may ask?
I haven't flown a piston-engined aircraft since 2009, but have recently been dreaming about revalidating my license.  It's such good fun!  But it's just one of those things which I keep postponing.  I guess I just struggle to find the motivation when I spend so much of my time in those big, fat jets...

As for your engine...  It might just be me stubbornly sticking to my oldschool ways, but I can't help but feel that the patinated Colorado paint, the pre-'71 bumpers and a set of sexy 3-piece Alpina alloys all beg for that hot-rod M10 engine you have stashed away.  Oh, and may I suggest a set of gurgling 40mm DCOE's to complete the picture?  ?

Keep up the good work Ryan...

Ha - I feel your pain!  I'm 6'6" and finished my heater box rebuild a couple weeks ago.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
