I don't know; looks pretty good to me. As someone who's just been down the restoration road, there's a lot that doesn't need to be done to drive and enjoy. 

 

There's no way it's a $50 or $60K car however, IMHO. There's too much that would need to be done to get it to those prices. $40K? Maybe, because it's a one owner car. I'm thinking mid $30's.

 

Some people don't want to tinker. I would want to drive it before bidding though. It would make a fine C&C car, as long as it drives well. After all, that's what really matters, at least to me.

My sense is, it's easier nowadays to remove the snorkel on a standard nose than it is to find a nice set of shallow grills for a wounded 1973 tii.  So we should stop raising a flag about a snorkel nose and look more closely at the grills and the quality of the nose graft.

More Sunday morning bashing...

Hose clamps: many are not original, obvious ones are those on the tii intake boot, fuel filler neck, and heater valve.

Seat belts: I could only see the driver side seat belt; male buckle/latch plate has a missing plastic part. Some owners would cut that piece to make the buckle free sliding one, or they were simply broken (Autolflug).

I would deduct 2000 dollars from the sale price for those missing parts....

That's my 2 cents as well. The color change will hold it back, and it wasn't a down to the metal proper job. Why why why? I like the original color! I personally don't mind non-sunroof cars, a sunroof is just something fussy and delicate to eventually go wrong, plus it's not enjoyable at highway speeds which is where I'd be mostly enjoying an '02. Still a nice accessory for sure.

I'd respectfully disagree with regard to the sunroof. Mine has not been closed in over 20 years except for the rare rainstorm. And I find it quite enjoyable at highway speed and beyond ?

Spoken like the true owner of a no-sunroof, original color car...Keep believing!

 

Driving down a windy road in a 2002 with both windows and the sunroof open is...the ultimate.

The whole “just another thing to go wrong” line may have relevance to massaging seats in a new 7-Series but hardly to a sunroof in a 2002.

 

As someone who works for one of the most reputable, high-end collectible car outfits in the country (Fantasy Junction in Emeryville), I can tell you with an actual knowledge basis that color changes from-original have no negative bearing on value and can potentially have a very positive one if three attributes are in place: 1. The job was done right; 2. The new color is generally considered more attractive & desirable than the original color; 3. The new color is a correct option for the year & model.

My first 2002 tii had a sunroof. Agreed windows down, roof open on a nice day with that huge green house window effect.

Nothing comes close, the wind the sound its truly the best. My current 2002 doesn't have a sunroof, so while I'll might keep my 02 forever this is not my forever 2002.

I've driven a number of '02s adorned with sunroofs at length and yes it's certainly a nice feature but c'mon they are noisy and all that wind + noise just isn't my thing - I'd add that that is one of the primary reasons I like A/C when the weather gets warm in my '02, and why I'd take an '02 with A/C over one with a sunroof any day. One man's 2 cents clearly. ?

I’ve always been a no sunroof guy.  At 6’6”, I can always use all the headroom I can get!  My ‘85 911 is a Euro model without sunroof, pretty rare as all USA models and most Euro models had sunroofs.  Gives me an extra 2” and I can drive without my head rubbing the headliner.  Never driven a 2002 with sunroof but I imagine it’s one of the only cars I wouldn’t have that problem with.

My dealer swapped lowered seats from a new sunroof Chamonix ‘76 with the standard-height seats the factory installed in my non-sunroof Polaris ‘76 so that I could fit into any ‘76. It’s still tight, although I now measure up as 6’2” and change.  I never had a similar problem with my sunroof Chamonix ‘70 (I don’t think the “lowered front seat” had even been invented when it was built). Thus, the ‘75-‘76 seats must be taller than earlier seats.

 

Still, you might have a problem in any sunroof ‘72: I don’t have much more than 1” of spare room in my sunroof ‘73!

Not sure how this thread ended up with a discussion  of  the merits of a sunroof but I am enjoying the exchange of   “opinions “ from the more traditional side.

 

 I am just glad this car was not “hot roded” ........who knows where it would be now. ?

Weird-I'm 6'-5" w/a swimmer's proportions and have always appreciated the headroom that 02's provide, incl. my '74 tii w/sunroof.

Must be where that height is concentrated: torso vs. legs. And, admittedly, I had period-appropriate big hair in the ‘70’s — not so now, but the height issue remains.... ?
