Awesome VW pickup truck in those photos....

Bill's shop truck, I see it once in a while in the Poway Costco parking lot.  Bill has cleared out a significant number of the customer projects in the last couple of months.  He owns the Verona and Fjord Tii's and the MG.  My favorite is the Chamonix Roundie, it was a roll-over with a crushed roof that was sold on Craigslist.  I tried to buy it because the motor was fitted with a Camden supercharger.  I missed out on it, but it turned up at Bill's shop for a complete restoration.  It will be wicked when it is done.

Here a picture of Bill working hard on my former Mintgrun car before I picked it up.

Don't hate me for saying this:

That is an early single cab Type 2.  Maybe has the 40 Hp engine. These and the double cab versions are worth a pretty penny now.

Yeah, I knew that (had a couple of Type 2’s, Jim). My kids called the single cab a “slug truck” and they were worth extra slugs (for those who knew the ‘slug bug’ game). -KB

Bill Holmes wrenched on my tii and former E3 Bavaria and 2800 when I lived in San Diego. He rebuilt my E3 ZF manual gearbox (ZF gearboxes came in all very early (68-70) E3/E9 before BMW switched to Getrag) which is an amazing feat because that's a lost art these days.  Bill is an incredible tii guru. He can dial a tii in better than anyone I found.  Being close to Bill's shop is one thing I do miss about living in San Diego along with good weather and great Mexican food

Here is my VW double cab. It is one of the most versatile cars I have owned,. Seats 6, use as a pickup or flatbed!

I had a split window double cab and couldn't agree more, the truck would haul whatever you put in it and would go anywhere. The only thing it didn't like was towing a trailer as that messed up the air flow from the engine.

You are right about that. Bill's shop is at his house and it's definitely off the beaten track.

Nice.

I visited Bill Holmes 28 years ago (summer 1990) when doing a cross country trip in my 1974. He had just moved from San Diego's Bank Street to the hills of El Cajon. There was a nice TiSa in the "showroom"... I do have lotsa pictures from that visit. And pictures were NOT digital back then.. ;-)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
