Ace...you drilled that!

Very nice work...thanks for the instructions.

Ha, no..... just found the drill bit that had the closest ID to the knob hole.... then electrical tape to hold it on ..... high precision work, NOT.

@M3This .... looks stunning.  Cannot wait to see a video off it ripping up to Bogus.

Looking good! I can relate to "...when I took it apart...". I bought a project, realized I was in over my head, so I sold the main components and bought a relatively sorted 72 2002...and immediately proceeded to start taking things apart. Think I am going to limit myself to stuff I can get done in the next few days. Treat it like a daily driver.

Thanks getting excited. Should be heading your way soon for drivetrain install with Matt. Hoping to be ripping it up Bogus by middle to end of summer.

Acquired my first ‘02 about a month ago and it’s been sitting in my parents’ driveway (gotta love apartment living) while I get it sorted. First order of business was bleeding the brakes and upgrading to braided lines while I was in there. Managed to swap everything out, including the clutch line, but the driver side rear was a no go. Lines looked like they’d never been changed and the rears had been painted over when they sprayed the bottom of the car. The nut hasn’t stripped yet, but I’ve thrown the kitchen sink at it (snap-on line wrench, drenched in both PB Blaster and acetone / ATF mixture, applied heat with a torch, V-shaped Irwin vise grips, etc).

while I wait for new hardliners from Blunttech I figured I’d overhaul the sad and tired throttle linkages with the gorgeous pieces from @halboyles. Install was straightforward and easy.

I got the hang of the diminutive little Getrag 242 4-speed that's currently sitting on my bedroom floor. I thought it might have been stuck somehow, because I couldn't get any tilt out of the gear selector, only in and out movement. I made a paint mark on one spline of the input shaft and one wing of the output flange and counted rotations, got 1:1 with the selector pushed in and 1-and-a-bit:1 with the selector pulled out, and realised I was getting third and fourth. Then I realised I'd been missing neutral every time I pulled the selector in and out, so with a bit more delicacy I managed to find neutral in between them, which led me over to 1st, 2nd and reverse; a working gearbox!

This week I installed the 123+ Bluetooth distributor. Didn’t start easily and realized it’s not connecting and didn’t take the settings. Need to figure out how to get the blue light to turn on. Will try direct wires from +/- on battery to same on coil per 123 website. Car runs though. Drove it around a bit.

Also discovered my alternator light stays on. Belt is loose but multi meter also shows 14.0 with ignition off, 13.8 with engine running. So I think the original alternator didn’t survive my replacing the bushings. New alternator likely.

Also discovered my starter is going out. Lots more times I got grinding instead of turning the flywheel. So there’s that.

On the bright side I drove the car and looks like I’m close to getting it on the road regularly.
Also put my old race numbers on the car. All my project/second/track cars run my same number from when I raced. it’s a vanity thing lol.

Installed my $40 chassis mount shifter today in preparation for the 5 speed swap. It’s not as fancy as the AKG shifter but it’s simple and serviceable. I don’t really see any reason to go fancier? It’s nearly a clone of the ones available for mk2 escorts. I recommend giving it a shot.

Next up is an alloy rack for the MS3x and a mk2 style short console with a separate panel next to the e brake for access when strapped in.

Your alternator is fine what you need is a new voltage regulator.
