What did you do to your 2002 today !

Steve,

A compliment from you regarding a non-stock 02 is like high praise from Don Rickles! Those black steel rims are staying: 5.5x14's, and getting a center chrome cap with BMW logo to set them off just right.

When you and I are ready, EVERYTHING I took off the car is standing by in my garage to return it to stock. Everything; old sway bars, springs, chrome trim, seats, AC, bumpers...it's all here. I felt is was important to keep it all with the car.

I doubt I'll be alive when and if that ever happens, but it's all there. Thanks for the kudos.

Thanks to Paul W at Maxmillian for sourcing a firewall pad and overnighting it to me so I could keep moving on the Baikal ‘73.

Looks great! Its funny that we're at the same points on our Baikals! The new firewall insulation makes a big difference, keep up the good work.

I think yours has pretty paint though if I’m not mistaken. This one only has nice paint in the engine bay. Exterior paint is a ways off yet.

Chamonix ‘73

Started working in the trunk tonight.

I removed the cover sheet, cleaned up the braces, roughly trimmed and blasted the replacement panel in the general locations of my cuts. Looking forward to getting the trunk back together. From there I think it’s RF wing sheet then I’ll tackle the L frame rail. Then probably the roof. ? ? (seriously... ) I’m thinking flares/air dam/spoiler will be the last things to fit up.

Picked up some rare 2 piece Gotti rims for my 02' can't wait to polish  and get some new rubber on them. Anyone sporting Gotti's on their 02?

Love the Gotti rims ever since seeing them on a neighbor's car in the early 80's.  I found another tii with Gotti rims but didn't end up buying that car.

Had a custom built E21 case/318ti LSD delivered to me this morning, it took less than two hours to swap it out by myself. That was the 5th differant rear end that I’ve installed in my “02”.

This was the 1st time I felt comfortable rollin on the gas really hard, confident that I was not gonna pop the rear end. I logged a TON of miles, just kinda babying it for the last fifteen months, so I would not distroy another rear end.

My buddy Kaelin who built the rear end for me, he was quite impressed, today was the 1st time he was in my car........

Changed out my leaking brake/clutch reservoir and put on new lines.  Probably need to change out the master brake cylinder some time soon.

Also changed out the starter and solenoid.  When I had the car shipped to me, the ex owner couldn’t get it started to drive on to the carrier.  So he used the starter to slowly work my ‘02 on to the lift.  The positive battery cable insulation was melted and the paint was burned off the starter.  It wouldn’t even engage when I unloaded it here at the house.  Will try to start it tomorrow once the battery is charged.

I do have a question.  I was reading somewhere else, that one way to change from drum brakes on the back to disc brakes is to swap out the rear control arms and hubs with mid 1980’s 318.  They look the same as my 1974 ‘02.  I have seen the VW systems, but I would kind of like to keep mine all BMW if possible.  Has any one had any experience with this conversion?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Transported it cross country to home in WA.  1972TII.  Stored for 28 years.  Originally Polaris/Blue interior.  Early production.  I plan to slowly bring it back to life.  VIN is under 500 of first production in late 1971.  Yes, matching motor.  Even steel wheels are all dated 11/71.
