  1. You're gonna have lots of little parts, so I recomment doing the disassembly/assembly in one of those disposable aluminum Turkey Pans. It can be a real pain crawling on the floor looking for a screw or check ball. Be sure to clean the outside of the carb really well before cracking it open. No point in contaminating the inerior with crud from the outside. Whenever I rebuild a carb, I just replace the jets rather than cleaning. Jets are cheap and it's not easy getting the old ones absolutely clean and back to spec, even with soaking and compressed air. After all the work and reassembly, I don't want the carb running poorly because of a partially blocked jet and have to do the job all over again. Cheers!
  2. I discussed this car and Mac with Bobby last year at the Alabama Indycar Grand Prix ! I go every year, and Bobby is always at the Porsche Paddock where I spend a lot of my time. He was pretty excited to know that the car was still around and being driven. He asked that I follow-up with Mac's info, which I did after talking with Mac here. Didn't hear if anything ever came of it. Btw, Bobby now has our LED taillights in his clone car. Cheers!
  3. Yes... we are working on other applications such as turn signals and running lights... stay tuned. An LED Reverse Light is really unwarranted. Think about how few minutes/yr. this light is actually lit - it's not a cost effective upgrade. And, it would naturally raise the price point, unnecessarily. Add to this that there are really no true White LEDs - white color is achieved by manipulating the RBG substrate at the cost of higher power consumption, greater heat and lower light output. In this application, the incandescant is an all-around better choice. Cheers!
  4. Thanks guys ! Truly appreciate your positive feedback ! Cheers!
  5. If all else fails, try North Hollywood Speedometer - http://www.nhspeedometer.com/ . They'll fix you right up ! Cheers!
  6. If you have the mechanical advance Tii dizzy, all the advance is in @ 2400. It helps to manually rotate the motor (engine off, pushed in 5th gear) until the ball is visible in the hole, then mark it with a white Paint Pen. Cheers!
  7. Just FYI... If you have the single reservoir system and don't bleed both the Brakes and the Clutch at the same time, you will contaminate the new fluid with the old, moisture-laden fluid still left in the system you didn't bleed, necessitating having to flush the entire system again with new fluid. Cheers!
  8. Sahara is a GREAT Color.. !! And... of course... It's Also The FASTEST.. !! Cheers!
  9. There are Cooling system cleaners/Flushes you can use to get most of the gunk out and I also recommend this Prestone Flush kit - http://www.prestone.com/products/print/461?popup=1 Get an old section of hose just to attach the bits from the kit and flush the system with water from a hose. I usually flush for 5 min. or so, then start the car, allow it to thoroughly heat up, and then flush it again before draining the system and refilling with proper 50/50 mix of coolant and Distilled water.. !! If there is the kind of gunk/debris you describe, you're in danger of clogging the coolong system which can be disasterous for your motor. Using this flush kit gives you the pressure of the water (instead of just the waterpump) to really loosen the stuff and get it out of your motor. GL Cheers!
  10. Make sure that your Blower Fan Blades have not bent and are scraping the sides of the heater box from air passing through at speed.. exascerbated by bumps or rough road. Cheers!
  11. Couple caveats when buying used Webers... Always assume they need a rebuild.. most do. Don't get blind-sided by another $75 for the rebuild kits... Also, unlike Dellortos, Webers can actually wear out beyond repair. The Accelerator Pump on the Dellorto is a Diaphram Pump and can rebuilt to spec using a new Diaphram. But the Accelerator Pump on a Weber is a Piston-Type running in a machined Bore in the Carb Body. This results in metal-to-metal contact and eventually the Bore gets worn beyond the point where it can make a good seal with the Piston. You cannot re-sleeve this bore to get the specs back and the carb will simply work worse and worse. Cheers!
  12. REALLY.. ?? Motor OIl.. ?? All Torque Specs assume a Dry Thread unless specifically noted.. !! Cheers!
  13. Tricky answer... You CAN use a #2, #4 or so Shielded Copper cable such as a Battery Cable and be OK 99% of the time. But, there is a reason Ground Straps are made of braided wire. Braided Ground Straps compensate for linear expansion, contraction, lateral motion and possess greater vibration reduction. In addition to reducing ground loop noise or electrostatic discharge, braided Ground Straps provide a low resistance path to ground. The physical properties of braid allows for greater ampacity thus creating greater heat dissipation over other materials used such as a shielded battery cable. In short, you'll not likely grenade your car using a Battery Cable, but BMW chose to use braided Ground Straps and that would be my personal preference too. Cheers!
  14. I believe I have a couple. If interested, make me an offer. Cheers!
  15. Actually, If you're planning on going Tan, I have a very nice Leather covered rear seat, never used, that I am planning on selling. I bought it along with custom 2-tone Leather Door cards as a Pkg. last year for my '76. I have since gotten a set of e21 Recaros in Black and was going to run Black seats in front, along with this Tan Rear seat, not ideal, but within my budget. But, I have just acquired a complete set of Excellent Black Leather seats from a 633CSi and so am planning to go with those instead so everything matches. The Tan seat has never even been opened, because I am stripping the interior to DynaMat it and didn't want to damage or stain the Tan Seat. IIRC, it shipped pretty cheaply and came either UPS or GreyHound. I'm looking to get $200 (negotiable) for it. Shoot me an email and let me know if this works for you, or I'll list it in the For Sale section. Cheers!
  16. Those Magnetic Drain Plugs look nice, but a little spendy. I have always used a Neodymium disc attached to the side of Disposable Oil Filters (similar to the magnetic 'cozies' sold for this purpose - also spendy). They can be used on ANY Steel Oil Filter. This traps the ferrous particles in the filter, out of the engine completely. Also, because of the size of the Oil Sump, these particles can circulate several times over before they migrate to and are captured by a Drainplug magnet. Given the much smaller space inside the Filter, and the stronger magnet, they tend to get captured much more easily. I use them on all my cars, even those with magnetic drainplugs such as my 911. Once, for sh*ts and giggles, I actually cut open the filter from the 911 and compared the amount of particles captured to those clinging to the drainplug. There was actually more than twice the amount captured in the filter than on the drainplug. With a 12 lb. pull, they are not going to come off the filter until you pull them off to place them on the new filter. And, anyway, there's no danger if they do... you just lose their capability. These Neodymium discs cost only about $2.50 each... a big advantage. I get them here: http://apexmagnets.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=91 Cheers!
  17. My wife travels for a living... Home 2 weeks, gone 2 weeks. That's been our life the past 15 years. I try to get all the car stuff done while she's away so we can spend time together when she's home. On more than one occasion, I've been under the car on the creeper into the wee hours and have fallen asleep. The resulting crick in my neck takes me out of the wrenching action for a day each time that happens... I'm on the plus side of 55. Cheers!
  18. Being older, I've followed F1 at least as long as these tradjedies. It's a little unfair to single-out Colin Chapman of Lotus as the 'winning at all costs' villain in the piece, because they ALL were.. !! He may well have designed light, fragile cars, but as soon as he started winning with them, all the others followed suit. You have to remember that these were Factory Teams who only built Road Cars to support their Racing efforts. Every Race was a Major financial burden. IMHO, if anyone was the Villain, it was the Track Owners who had enjoyed Corporate Sponsorship for decades before the Teams received any. Yet, these Owners failed to improve their tracks. Ferrari, Maseratti, Cooper, Lotus - ALL had their companies futures riding on these races - they HAD to win. Nobody ever accused Enzo Ferrari of being a Humanitarian !! It wasn't until the Corporate Sponsorship of the mid-70s that these Teams were financially stable enough to start adding safety equipment to their cars. The period covered in the documentary was still F1s Infancy Period, albeit one which had lasted for decades. Grand Prixs had been associated with Death since the '20s. Had it not been for the determination of the Owners AND the Drivers, the sport would never have achieved what it has today. Cheers! Still, some great footage
  19. Running early E28 M-tecknic wheel (w/ course splines)... Roundel Hub not installed in pic, but it's there. Also, had to reverse the Horn pick-up, a little custom work, but not bad - works great ! Love this wheel !! Cheers!
  20. You may see better power... you will see better reliability and probably MPG. Now, weigh the advantages. Do you need more power for the driving you do..?? Have your carbs been unreliable.. ?? How much an improvement in MPG will you have to see over the life of the car (for as long as YOU own it) to actually end up with a NET saving after factoring in the cost of the swap... which is not insignificant .. !! Do you have a wad that you don't need for anything else on the car or other..?? My take..?? If a Megasquirt system fell into my lap, I'd do the swap, otherwise, most likely not. I'm comfortable with carbs, and my '02 isn't used to light my hair on fire... I have other rides for that. Your take, and undoubtedly some others' may differ... Cheers !
  21. Bob, It was great meeting you and seeing your car at the shop when I flew in to pick up Perry's E30. I know how much you loved that car and it's sad to think of you without it. Hopefully, it went to a good home and you'll find something to give you fresh joy !! Cheers!
  22. I have always favored the e-28 leather M-technik wheel. You need to reverse the horn ring contact, but it's an easy do.. !! Turn signal cancellation works w/ no mod whatever. And... it's a genuine BMW wheel.. !! Cheers!
