  1. First, let me thank the one hundred or so 2002 owners who have already purchased our LED conversion kit !! It has been very gratifying to know that we have contributed in some way to this excellent Marque !! I have been informed that our e-store - www.2002s.net will be down for upgrading Thursday 11/17/11 through Friday 11/18/11. I will be out of the Country during this upgrade, and unsure of the internet access I will have. But, I want to assure you that we are ready to service your needs. If you have an order, or any questions regarding our kit during this time, feel free to email me at: info@2002s.net. I will have limited internet access during my trip, but will try to respond to everyone who emails me at this address. Thank you... Cheers !
  2. Agreed... copper would be too soft to use for hydraulic fluid lines. cheers!
  3. Tom, That would be great ! The Yarra Bend Boathouse..?? Is that the same as the Studley Park Boathouse ..? The Park looks great ! Looking forward to hearing from you ! Cheers!
  4. My wife and I will be in Melbourne for 10 days beginning Nov. 12. We've been invited by the PGA to attend the President's Cup Golf Tournament and will be staying on the Southbank at the Crown Complex along w/ the PGA Staff and the US Team. We'd love to meet any fellow 2002 owners for lunch, a drive, tour, etc. We're not available on the 15th & 16th due to the Black Tie Team Dinner and the Opening Ceremonies, but pretty much free after that until our departure Tues. the 22nd. If any local '02 owners want to hook up, send me an email w/ contact info by using the email button above. Looking forward to meeting some of our brethren from Down Under !! Cheers!!
  5. The Bosch alternator is spec'd at 13.5-14.5 VDC. If you're seeing more on a bench test, it's a problem. Suspect the voltage regulator, but also don't rule out the battery either. A cracked cell or broken and/or sulphated plate(s) can mask themselves as charging issues. If the battery is 5 years old (or of unknown age) pitch it. Cheers!
  6. Mike, I'm surprised no one mentioned your F/R Bumper tucking !! That looks great as if it were factory spec !! Thanks for joining us on the drive... it was great fun !! Cheers!
  7. As mentioned, the LED is simply an indicator on the XR700 Box... not the dizzy module. Early Crane and even earlier Allison Boxes do NOT have this LED indicator. The dizzy module uses an IR LED to trigger the photocell - not visible light, so there's nothing to see here. You can check the coil charging circuit (primary coil) with a DMM, this should trigger when the shutter wheel slot passes the dizzy module. Make sure you have good grounds and also that you're running the proper resistance at the coil - Black coil needs a ballast resistor, Blue coil has internal resistance, so no ballast resistor is required. With everything at/near TDC, you should be able to start the car by rotating the dizzy body say 20° in either direction, if not, you have a wiring issue. Also, I know this sounds stupid, but you do not use the condensor with this setup, but you do need to be sure that the former condensor wire is shielded and not grounding out - this will prevent the car from starting, or will kill the engine if it grounds out. Be sure it's tucked away after either using a crimp end cap on it... or wrapping it good with electrical tape. Cheers!
  8. In the end, it's a great exhaust system. But, be prepared for a large infusion to your vocabulary !! It just isn't made as well as it should so far as plug & play is concerned. It took a friend and I several hours of fiddling to get it on, but since, it doesn't rattle and makes good noise. Also, double-check to be sure it's the right one for your car. Ireland is NOTORIOUS for kitting it up in the box with the wrong rear piece so it won't go over the axle or mate up with the valence in the rear !! I love mine... but it took a long time, and much frustration, to get there !! Cheers!
  9. I never met or had the chance to chat with Daniel. Nevertheless, I feel that as a community, we are all lessened by his passing. Condolences to Daniel's family, friends, and those who knew him through this forum. A Memorial Drive, while a GREAT idea, is something that few of us are able to participate in due to our proximity to Nor Cal. Yet, I think it would be nice to do something in rememberance of Daniel. Might I suggest a 15 minute moratorium on posting to this site to coincide with the date/start of the Memorial Drive ?? Perhaps the organizers of the drive can keep us informed and we can start another thread with the details. Show of hands ?? Cheers!
  10. Devlin, Welcome!! I'd be happy to look at your car if you like. What carb are you running..?? Might be an idea to host a wrenching party and let all of us TC '02 owners loose on your car - make small work. If you're looking for a local mechanic, try Dave Juntanin @ Top Gear Automotive on Lake Street (at Hiawatha) - http://topgearmn.com/ . I've known Dave for more than a decade and IMHO, he's the best foreign guy in town. Dave was the exotic tech at Downtown Jaguar/Lotus/Land Rover for years and I 1st met him through the local Lotus Club. He started his own shop a year ago and it has grown tremendously - he's THE guy for anything exotic or high-end and is to be trusted, wiill not perform work you do not need and is less expensive than many area shops. Dave is actually one, in fact, the ONLY mechanic I would take my own cars to. Wrenching is part of the whole thing for me, so I don't give Dave as much work as I'd like, but I've recommended him to many people, all satisfied. Anyway, got an email from Mike Gray with your particulars and will reply with our email list! Cheers! Jim M.
  11. I had no issues using my 'Motive' PB at 19PSI. Cheers!
  12. When you installed the Crane, did you phase it? It sounds as if one of 2 things: The shutter wheel is not properly seated on the dizzy shaft - be sure to use the #220 wheel. Or, it was not phased... that is adjust the dizzy body such that the leading edge of the shutter wheel is advanced to the IR detector to account for the normal advance in the dizzy. I suspect one of these is causing your issue. Cheers!
  13. Garrett, Welcome! $5k is too much to pay for what is at best a $2k car! Rust that's showing is ALWAYS the tip of the iceberg with these cars. Of course, you will never find a perfect '02, at least not one which hasn't had a full rotiserie restoration, but now you're staring uncomfortably at $20k. Some issues are workable, even some rust one, but they better be very minor. My advice is to pass, especially since you have now moved to the 'Land of '02s'. Cali has some of the nicest examples out there and I'm certain your patience will be rewarded. Don't leap at the 1st one(s) to come along. Use the journey as an orientation and learning tool so when the right one comes along, you'll have no trouble spotting it and taking it home. Cheers!
  14. Why not just drive the pin out of the drive gear, pull the gear off, invert it and replace the pin? This will reverse it's rotation. Cheers!
  15. If the original engine # is the same as the VIN, running the number - 5414265 comes out as: 3' E21/sedan/320i/USA/04-1978/M10/manual transmission So it appears to be a substituted engine, not a crate motor replacement. Cheers!
  16. Without a FPR, the fuel pump pressure can overcome the needle valve and floats mimicking a float level issue. FPR is cheap and necessary kit. Cheers!
  17. Good advise! But, FYI, the correct word is hygroscopic. The main difference is that hydrophillic is mainly used to describe substances which mix well in or with water, while hygroscopic substances will actually pull moisture out of the air. Similar, but distincly different. Cheers!
  18. The Bavuato bleeder is a nice one. IMHO better than the Motive standard. If you haven't flushed the system for some time, I would go 2 Qts. to flush all the crap out. Into a container with the tube tip submerged in fluid. Pressure no higher than 18 PSI. Pump up as needed - don't let the pressure go too low. IIRC, the bleeder valve is 7mm. Open end OK, but use closed end to initially break it loose. Proper tool is Flare Nut wrench (makes a great B'day gift!) Start at Rht. rear and work your way forward to Lft. Front (farthest to closest to MC) If you have a fluid reservoir that also serves the clutch, bleed the clutch too (same procedure). If not, all the contaminated fluid in the clutch lines will contaminate your new fluid. IIRC, the Bavauto bleeder has a pressure relief button or screw on it. Be sure to clean the bleeder w/ denatured alcohol before storing it. Cheers!
  19. If you are looking for door cards, contact Dave Vaarco at Aardvark Racing - he sells a set of Luan, computer router cut door cards for less than you can make them - identical thickness to OEM so they fit properly. Spend your time on more productive areas. http://2002parts.com/html/door_panel_kit.html Cheers!
  20. GET OVER IT!!! The way he drives his car is his business... In no way is it a reflection of you or anyone else here just because you happen to drive the same car. When I got my '02, I got a car... period. Nowhere in the owners manual did it state a specific code of conduct which I must abide by. It would be terribly arrogant of you to say anything to him at all in this regard. Proper etiquette..?? The phrase: 'Mind your own business' comes to mind! Get a thicker skin or sell your car... definitely pick better people to drive with. God... we're becoming a nation of Hall Monitors! Cheers!
  21. You don't state you location, but most medium to large cities have independent starter/alternator rebuild shops. Thes guys often produce a better rebuild than major rebuild centers and can often increase the capacity with the same core over spec. I would check into this 1st, as it's likely the cheapest route. If not an option, check with BLUNT, he can supply what you need and offer some alternatives as well. Cheers!
  22. Ditto... and/or one of the float arms is bent and one float sitshigher than the other. Simple fix... Use SEARCH function for more information. Cheers!
  23. To check battery - connect DMM to each the +/- terminals and read the VDC - s/b 12.6-13.2 - any less or more the battery is faulty. To check Alternator current - connect DMM same as before, only start the car. DMM should now read 13.5-14.5 VDC. If less/more, check belt for slipping, or diodes making up voltage regulator are fauly. Cheers!
