  1. True Gary, you did not say what you think the car is worth. However, if you post a request for comments with zero info other than an asking price, don't you think it's reasonable to expect that helpful folks like us will provide input on the price? Or was your post intended as rhetorical, perhaps?
  2. $28k seems over-priced based on the sparse info and photos. No pictures or photos of the engine bay and underside? Worth looking at? Sure, but don't bring $28k with you, for sure. It needs a very thorough inspection and the owner needs to be realistic about what she has.
  3. I'm considering trying to sew covers for my E21 Recaro's. My driver's side seat has a rip in the bottom seat and I've never truly loved the tobacco-ish cover. However, they are still nice very much nice enough that I'm not willing to rip them up to make patterns. Does anybody have some old covers that I could take apart to make patterns with? Thanks a bunch.
  4. That is very cool. There aren't too many TV personalities that I'd like to bump into and shoot the breeze with over a beer. Ed and Mike are two of the few, they seem like very down to earth and legit car guys.
  5. I got the same email. I'm guessing his email account got hacked. I wouldn't click on the link if I were you, just delete it.
  6. TobyB: The second coming of CD Eisel perhaps? Although your price is still way too high for his standards.
  7. 1. Early style Heater Fan: This one need cosmetic freshening but works perfectly well with no wobbles or squeaks: $60 2. This is a fuel pump from an '89-91 318is. This is the ideal fuel pump when doing an EFI conversion as it has the built in return line as well as the correct depth sending unit for a 2002 gas tank so you get the correct fuel gauge reading. To my knowledge, this is the only stock fuel pump that has these attributes hence its desirability when doing an EFI swap. I do not have a spare set of the pig tail connectors. $100 3. Pair of green glass vent windows. Glass is clean and with very minimal scratching. Chrome is decent but not show quality with some fading on the outside metal. $60 for the pair 4. Brand new, never used, 2002 ignition switch. $60 5. Brand new, never used, non-locking gas cap $10 6. VDO round washer fluid reservoir. No leaks or cracks, but some yellowing to plastic. $15 All prices are excluding shipping. Will she via UPS ground in the US at buyer's expense. Alternately, can be picked up from the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. [/url Location: El Cerrito, CA
  8. No idea what happened to Otis, but this Isetta on Petrolicious just reminding me of his freewheeling spirit and the party trailer he built for his orange '02. Good times.. http://www.petrolicious.com/mf-business-in-the-front-party-in-the-back
  9. Eiremon. I am contemplating selling my '02 and it may suit your shopping list. If interested, drop me an email. trichardson AT clifbar DOT com
  10. Congrats, the car is looking good. Appears you pulled the rear fenders a bit? Car looks a lot like mine, so no great surprise I like it.
  11. Thanks for the background Jerry, I figured there was more to the story. Still, a real shame.
  12. A bit OT, I know, but I'm so saddened to hear that Mark has not kept Silicon Garage alive, even in spirit. I feel fortunate to have known Curt, and if there is one thing he absolutely was, it was honest and giving, through and through. To hear that someone else (who in all my previous encounters seemed like a really nice guy) has not only closed up the business, but also left some customers hanging, is just really disappointing. Mark, if you're out there, I hope you have the opportunity and will to make things right purely out of respect for Curt, even if you don't have the desire or time to carry on with the business.
  13. Looking good Ray, nice to see you have it back. Tom
  14. So Harv, how is that car coming along? It has been a long time (years, I think) since I've seen any updates on it. Close to being done? Sorry for the thread hijack...
  15. Never seen to 2002 search site, thanks for that!! ArdenK: The air box was produced by Lee Vuong of Massive Brakes some years back. I believe he only made a dozen or so of them and that was it. I was lucky enough to pick one up from a fellow FAQer a couple of years back. The ITB's are 45mm TWM units. 45's are on the large side for a 2002, but since my car has the bottom end from an E30 M3 it has a slightly higher displacement (2.3L) so figured the extra size might be fun. I haven't been disappointed with them.
  16. I don't have a build thread on here, no. Attached are a couple of photos to at least give an idea of what I've got but will stop short of a full description as I'm still not sure if I want to go through with it at all. BAT is certainly a place which has come to mind, but I think they are pretty picky about their exclusive features and I'm not sure if a 2002 will cut the mustard, so to speak. Thanks for the input guys. To be clear, I'm not requesting value estimates, rather tools to help me assign a good value and good places to list.
  17. After almost 10 great years, I am considering selling my '73 2002. My mind still isn't fully made up yet, honestly I thought I'd keep the car until I was lowered into my grave. However, priorities and times change, and sometimes this creates a shift in thinking. Time will tell... So, since my car is pretty far from stock, I'm curious to know what tools folks have used successfully to help set an appropriate selling price. I've been perusing the completed listings on Ebay, checking Craigslist a bit, and also looked at the Hagerty pricing tool, although the latter isn't very helpful with a modified car. Also, I'm curious to hear where people have had good success selling their car. Craigslist doesn't really interest me, and I'm a bit nervous of an auction format on Ebay also. Obviously it would get posted here on the FAQ, but would like to hear where else have done well for people (I'm in the San Francisco area.) Thanks in advance.
  18. You can also call Porterfield directly. They can build custom pads with any compound you want.
  19. This past week I was in Germany for work. One evening I was invited to a dinner party at a place called Classic Remise, in Dusseldorf. As we pulled into the parking lot, I was already in a good mood as we were just a little way behind what looked to be a '72-73 1602, although the grills looked to be from an earlier model (I was unable to talk with the owner to get more details.) From what I could gather, Classic Remise is an interesting blend of independently run restoration and service shops, garages rented by local club chapters (Citroen, Morgan, etc..) as well as a storage and sales facility for both private and professional collectors/dealers. My gut guess would be that there were no less than 300 cars in the "collection", everything from Porsches (the most prevalent car on site being the 911), Mercs, a couple of Cobras, Alfas, Astons, Ferraris, and just about everything in between. Below are a few of my personal highlights, but this is truly just showing the very tip of the iceberg. A truly amazing establishment, and well worth a visit if you are ever in the area. Shown below are an Aston One:77, Ferrari F40, Alfa 6C, TVR Tuscan, and a number of others.
  20. I can't speak to those on EBay as I'm not familiar with them. I'm sure if you search ITB's you'll find some good info on this site. I run TWM's and am very happy with them. As you suggest, great tunability and a nice sound to boot. I've run them both with an airbox and with screen filters (similar length airhorns with each, they are just recessed out of site in the airbox), seems to be absolutely zero difference in hp or torque.
  21. I saw that video a few days ago. I could happily watch it over and over again, blindfolded, just for the noises. If only today's formula one cars sounded like this...
  22. Looks fantastic. I'm just in the East Bay so will consider coming to Sonoma just to check out the car. Nice work!!
  23. What year? It's a bit harder on later cars.
  24. I've just been ordering them directly from Porterfield's website. I've had technical questions a couple of times, and each time I have had good and fast responses, so in my mind they have earned the business, so I give it to them directly. For a 2002 you'll be looking at around $300 for a full set of pads/shoes. I can't comment on dust level and have never used them on a street car, but perhaps others can help with this.
