I am looking for the right person/shop to help me sort out misc drivability related issues with my 1973 BMW 2002 Tii. ItD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heic runs and drives but needs some fine tuning and dialing in by someone who really knows these engines/fuel injection systems. Mine runs rich and rough, PO by based the cold start system and put in a push button activated warm up gizmo, which I know isn't right and needs to be figured out. Also I have some charging system issues/short that needs to be sorted out. Please lets hear your recommendations. Located in Southern Orange County-Mission Viejo area. D948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD4C3995E-4C2C-4307-8139-D0AADC973652.heicD4C3995E-4C2C-4307-8139-D0AADC973652.heicD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD948EFD8-EF22-4829-A5FD-466E998A2122.heicD4C3995E-4C2C-4307-8139-D0AADC973652.heic

Too far away from me, but if you have a cold start injector issue then you probably need to replace the relay board, and check the time/temp switch and wiring. Better to have the OE air filter as what you have mucks up the sonic pulses the engine needs,  particularly at 4000 RPM and above. (Which is where you should run)

TB probably needs new bushings and seals so you can get smooth fuel and air delivery, assuming you have no slop in the linkages and the WUR is functioning properly.

On the ignition side a map of the curve is helpful as it's VERY important that be in specification.

But in the end it's probably just that the intake log is polished.😀

It would be great if you could have the pictures in jpeg so the other 90% of the world could see them.

I'd recommend Jack as a better value, as sorting it all out will take many hours, but he's probably further away from you.

+1

The notch appeared with, and was found on almost all tii’s having E12 heads and aluminum intake runners. Although starting in June 1972, and generally following the on and off application of E12 heads in 1972 model tii’s, all 1973 model tii’s appear to have had the notch.

Probably, but not without some doubt, the firewall notch accompanied the bulkier aluminum intake runners that replaced the plastic runners and helped facilitate visual access to the flywheel’s timing ball.

Regards,

Steve

I have had all my tii's tuned by Jeff Tighe of TP Motorsports in Santa Ana, or my local legend by the name of Jeff Brown. Combined, those two more about tii's than anyone I know. I've had 15 Tii's and they've all been tuned by both, depending on if I was lazy and if beer was involved. Both guys have all the correct tii tuning tools and make house calls.

You had me at “tii”☺️

These aren’t all that hard to work on, but you’ll need to brush up on how the linkage operates and how to properly adjust it.

Proper Valve clearances are important.

A worn out distributor will cause headaches. +1 on having a “red” coil and a ballast resistor. Hope the resistor is an 8 ohm one. You can source a new ballast resistor intended for an older Mercedes.

A clean fuel supply is critical, along with about 28 psi fuel pressure from the pump.

Check the wiring on the back of the alternator.  Oil changes may cause damage to the wires. Check the tightness of the (2) screws that secure the voltage regulator to the inner fender. Very important ground location for charging efficiency. Inspect the brown ground wire from the alternator case to the engine.
